Novel Approach to Inter-Onset-Interval Ratio Uncovers Music-Like Rhythmic Patterns in Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) Warble Song. [PDF]

open access: yesAnn N Y Acad Sci
Recent work on non‐human animal vocalizations has offered new insights into rhythmicity. In an attempt to improve upon methods commonly used in animal rhythm research, we investigated the rhythmic structure of budgerigar song. Our proposed statistical approach showed rhythmicity in human music but not language, and uncovered non‐random structured ...

An Active Inference Model of Meter Perception and the Urge to Move to Music. [PDF]

open access: yesAnn N Y Acad Sci
Prominent theories suggest that the urge to move along to rhythmic music is driven by precision‐weighted prediction errors. We operationalized this account as a Bayesian model which outputs surprisal as an index of prediction errors based on posterior probabilities calculated over metered and unmetered priors.

Beam commissioning of a new compact scanned proton therapy system with four different dose calculation algorithms. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Appl Clin Med Phys
Abstract Background The Central Japan International Medical Center (Gifu prefecture, Japan) as the 20th Proton Therapy Institution in Japan, has newly installed a compact scanned proton therapy system, ProBeam 360°™. We installed two commercial treatment planning systems (TPSs): Eclipse and RayStation.

Isochronous Partitions for Region-Based Self-Triggered Control

open access: yes, 2020
In this work, we propose a region-based self-triggered control (STC) scheme for nonlinear systems. The state space is partitioned into a finite number of regions, each of which is associated to a uniform inter-event time. The controller, at each sampling

Uniform approximations for pitchfork bifurcation sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In non-integrable Hamiltonian systems with mixed phase space and discrete symmetries, sequences of pitchfork bifurcations of periodic orbits pave the way from integrability to chaos.

Parameter Sets for 10 TeV and 100 TeV Muon Colliders, and their Study at the HEMC'99 Workshop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A focal point for the HEMC'99 workshop was the evaluation of straw-man parameter sets for the acceleration and collider rings of muon colliders at center of mass energies of 10 TeV and 100 TeV.

An Algorithmic Approach to Limit Cycles of Nonlinear Differential Systems: the Averaging Method Revisited

open access: yes, 2019
This paper introduces an algorithmic approach to the analysis of bifurcation of limit cycles from the centers of nonlinear continuous differential systems via the averaging method. We develop three algorithms to implement the averaging method.

Constrained structure of ancient Chinese poetry facilitates speech content grouping

open access: yes, 2020
Ancient Chinese poetry is constituted by structured language that deviates from ordinary language usage [1, 2]; its poetic genres impose unique combinatory constraints on linguistic elements [3].

Anomalous shell effect in the transition from a circular to a triangular billiard [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We apply periodic orbit theory to a two-dimensional non-integrable billiard system whose boundary is varied smoothly from a circular to an equilateral triangular shape.

PEDOT‐Based Eutectogel Electrode Arrays for Enhanced High‐Resolution Electrogastrography: Fabrication, Stability, and Wearable Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a high‐density PEDOT eutectogel electrode array for enhanced body surface gastric mapping. Silver electrodes are blade‐coated onto flexible substrates, followed by electrogelation of PEDOT:PSS and the deposition of a PEDOT:LS eutectogel.
