Kinematics of Burial Remagnetizations in Fold‐and‐Thrust Belts: A Case Study From the South Pyrenean Foreland Basin (NE Spain)

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract This study investigates two burial‐related remagnetizations in the Jaca–Pamplona foreland basin (Southern Pyrenees): one with dual polarity and a positive reversals test, and another with only reverse polarity. These components, labeled C3 and C4 based on their mean unblocking temperatures, were identified from a paleomagnetic analysis of 142 ...

Semiclassical Prediction of Large Spectral Fluctuations in Interacting Kicked Spin Chains

open access: yes, 2017
While plenty of results have been obtained for single-particle quantum systems with chaotic dynamics through a semiclassical theory, much less is known about quantum chaos in the many-body setting.

Performance of an endcap prototype of the Atlas accordion electromagnetic calorimeter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The design and construction of a lead-liquid argon endcap calorimeter prototype using an accordion geometry and conceived as a sector of the inner wheel of the endcap calorimeter of the future ATLAS experiment at the LHC is described.

The Emergence of a Universal Rhythmic Feature: Simple Models Can Produce Categorical Rhythms

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1558, Issue 1, April 2026.
We investigated the rhythmic structure of temporal sequences generated by two simple models: a spiking neuron model and a model of cricket stridulation. More specifically, we quantified the presence of rhythmic categories in the output sequences of the two models. We studied the models’ rhythmic behavior when given two different kinds of temporal input

Control of Hamiltonian chaos as a possible tool to control anomalous transport in fusion plasmas

open access: yes, 2003
It is shown that a relevant control of Hamiltonian chaos is possible through suitable small perturbations whose form can be explicitly computed. In particular, it is possible to control (reduce) the chaotic diffusion in the phase space of a Hamiltonian ...

Top‐Down Attention Modulates Phase Effects on Audio‐Tactile Processing

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1558, Issue 1, April 2026.
Multisensory temporal alignment is crucial for rhythmic perception. Using audio–tactile stimulation as a model, we examined how top‐down selective attention modulates temporal alignment across modalities by manipulating attentional focus and cross‐modal phase relationships while recording EEG responses.

Dual Sound Sources in Siamangs Generate Individually Rhythmic and Temporally Coordinated Vocal Emissions

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1558, Issue 1, April 2026.
We analyzed the rhythmic structure of songs from 14 adult siamangs, a singing primate that produces units via two distinct vocal production mechanisms: oral‐tract modulation and laryngeal‐sac resonance. When considered separately, both mechanisms exhibit isochrony (1:1). In contrast, the combined output reveals additional rhythmic clusters (≈1:9, 9:1).

New Zealand Geological Timescale 2025

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 69, Issue 1, March 2026.
New Zealand Geological Timescale 2025 (NZGT 2025) is the first comprehensive update and revision of the New Zealand Geological Timescale in a decade. The criteria used to establish age ranges of New Zealand Stages within the NZGT have been reviewed, calibrated, and revised where required against the 2023/04 International Chronostratigraphic Chart and ...

Words and Meters: Neural Evidence for a Connection Between Individual Differences in Statistical Learning and Rhythmic Ability in Infancy

open access: yesDevelopmental Science, Volume 29, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Music and language are both hierarchically structured: syllables combine into words, and meters are groupings of musical beats. Statistical learning (SL) supports speech segmentation through computation of transitional probabilities between syllables, and individual differences in SL ability were found predictive of further language ...

Novel Approach to Inter‐Onset‐Interval Ratio Uncovers Music‐Like Rhythmic Patterns in Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) Warble Song

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1557, Issue 1, March 2026.
Recent work on non‐human animal vocalizations has offered new insights into rhythmicity. In an attempt to improve upon methods commonly used in animal rhythm research, we investigated the rhythmic structure of budgerigar song. Our proposed statistical approach showed rhythmicity in human music but not language, and uncovered non‐random structured ...
