Bayesian Inference from Count Data Using Discrete Uniform Priors

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
We consider a set of sample counts obtained by sampling arbitrary fractions of a finite volume containing an homogeneously dispersed population of identical objects. We report a Bayesian derivation of the posterior probability distribution of the population size using a binomial likelihood and non-conjugate, discrete uniform priors under sampling with ...

Feasibility and Safety of High‐Dose Proton Re‐Irradiation in Recurrent Pediatric Central Nervous System Tumors: A Single‐Institution Retrospective Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors often recur despite multimodality therapy. Although re‐irradiation (re‐RT) has historically been limited by concerns for severe late toxicities, modern techniques have renewed interest in this approach. Proton therapy provides dosimetric advantages that may enable curative re‐treatment with

Melt conditioning by advanced shear technology (MCAST) for refining solidification microstructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
MCAST (melt conditioning by advanced shear technology) is a novel processing technology developed recently by BCAST at Brunel University for conditioning liquid metal prior to solidification processing.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Bayesian and non-Bayesian estimation of dynamic cumulative residual Tsallis entropy for moment exponential distribution under progressive censored type II

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2023
The dynamic cumulative residual (DCR) entropy is a helpful randomness metric that may be used in survival analysis. A challenging issue in statistics and machine learning is the estimation of entropy measures.

No Free Lunch for Noise Prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
No-free-lunch theorems have shown that learning algorithms cannot be universally good. We show that no free funch exists for noise prediction as well. We show that when the noise is additive and the prior over target functions is uniform, a prior on the ...

On the Performance of Mismatched Data Detection in Large MIMO Systems

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate the performance of mismatched data detection in large multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, where the prior distribution of the transmit signal used in the data detector differs from the true prior.

Implications of uniformly distributed, empirically informed priors for phylogeographical model selection: A reply to Hickerson et al [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Establishing that a set of population-splitting events occurred at the same time can be a potentially persuasive argument that a common process affected the populations. Oaks et al.
