Unilateral contact dermatitis of the chest [PDF]

open access: yesDermatology Online Journal, 2019
Unusual distributions of contact dermatitis often lead to identification of the offending agent. We present a case of unilateral dermatitis of the chest developing in a patient with a history of allergy to metal. A name tag attached magnetically to his work uniform was identified as the cause of the eruption.

Recreational runners with Achilles tendinopathy have symmetrical single leg hopping mechanics, and contact duration is associated with vertical stiffness [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation
Background Runners with unilateral Achilles tendinopathy (AT) may exhibit inter-limb differences in lower limb mechanics during single leg hopping, and clinic friendly temporospatial measures may relate to stiffness characteristics.

Method for analysis of planar motion of system with rigid and extremely flexible components via analogy with contact problem of rigid bodies

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2021
Recent years have witnessed attempts to employ a system with rigid and extremely flexible components (SREF), usually consisting of strings, membranes, and so on, to realize huge structures for spacecraft in orbit.

Investigation of the Failure Response of Masonry Walls Subjected to Blast Loading Using Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis

open access: yesComputation, 2023
A numerical investigation of masonry walls subjected to blast loads is presented in this article. A non-linear finite element model is proposed to describe the structural response of the walls.

A parallel algorithm for unilateral contact problems

open access: yesComputers & Structures, 2022
In this paper, we introduce a novel parallel contact algorithm designed to run efficiently in High-Performance Computing based supercomputers. Particular emphasis is put on its computational implementation in a multiphysics finite element code. The algorithm is based on the method of partial Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions and is capable to solve

Nitsche’s method for unilateral contact problems [PDF]

open access: yesPortugaliae Mathematica, 2019
We derive optimal a priori and a posteriori error estimates for Nitsche’s method applied to unilateral contact problems. Our analysis is based on the interpretation of Nitsche’s method as a stabilised finite element method for the mixed Lagrange multiplier formulation of the contact problem wherein the Lagrange multiplier has been eliminated ...

The Effects of Chronic Ankle Instability on the Biomechanics of the Uninjured, Contralateral Ankle During Gait

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, 2022
Objective To determine whether unilateral chronic ankle instability (CAI) affects the kinematics of the uninjured contralateral ankle. Methods In this case‐control study, 15 adult patients with unilateral CAI and 15 healthy controls were studied.

Evaluating the risk of knee osteoarthritis following unilateral ACL reconstruction based on an EMG-assisted method

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2023
Objective: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) cannot decrease the risk of knee osteoarthritis after anterior cruciate ligament rupture, and tibial contact force is associated with the development of knee osteoarthritis.

Numerical modelling of sandwich panels with a non-continuous soft core

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
The paper presents the problem of static analysis of sandwich structures with a non-continuous soft core. In the numerical 3D FE models, the core is divided into separated parts. The contact between these parts has the form of unilateral constraints. The
