The Psychophysical Power Law and Unilateral Spatial Neglect
Brain and Cognition, 1994The relationship between objective measures and subjective experiences of sensory stimuli is described by a power law, psi = K phi beta, in which psi represents the psychological value and phi the physical value. The constant (K) and the exponent (beta) are empirically derived.

Hemispatial sunglasses: Effect on unilateral spatial neglect
Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 1997To investigate whether using glasses shaded on the non-neglected side would lead to less unilateral neglect during pencil-and-paper activities.Descriptive study of ten patients. One remarkable case is described in detail.Rehabilitation medicine department in an urban general hospital.Ten hemiplegic patients showing left unilateral neglect during pencil-

The dilemma of unilateral spatial neglect
Neuropsychological Rehabilitation, 1994Abstract During the past few years the attention of authors interested in the study of unilateral spatial neglect has shifted from the search for a basic underlying mechanism to the individualisation of the different forms that this disorder can assume.

Measuring unilateral spatial neglect during stepping
Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 1997To examine the diaschisis of faultless conventional neuropsychological tests of unilateral spatial neglect (USN) and defects of activities of daily living (ADL) functions. The evaluations of USN by assessments now in wide use were compared with newly developed assessments using a dual-task methodology in which a stepping activity was used as a ...

Effects of illusory spatial anisometry in unilateral neglect
Experimental Brain Research, 2004Patients with visuospatial neglect tend to underestimate horizontal magnitudes in contralesional space. It has been recently hypothesised that this behaviour might be due to anisometry of space perception, by which horizontal stimuli would be progressively underestimated proceeding from the ipsi towards the contralesional side of space. We investigated

Unilateral spatial neglect: assessment and rehabilitation strategies
NeuroRehabilitation, 1995Unilateral spatial neglect is one of the most striking disorders of cognition. Focal brain lesions, more commonly on the right, produce profound deficits in the awareness of contralateral self and space. This article reviews the assessment and current theoretical explanations of neglect, in light of rehabilitation.

Right unilateral spatial neglect in aphasic patients
Brain and Language, 2015To investigate spatial responses by aphasic patients during language tasks, 63 aphasics (21 severe, 21 moderate, and 21 mild) were administered two kinds of auditory pointing tasks-word tasks and sentence tasks-in which the spatial conditions of the stimuli were controlled.

[The mechanism of unilateral spatial neglect].
No to shinkei = Brain and nerve, 1983We investigated a test for unilateral spatial neglect and discussed the mechanism of this symptom. Seventy eight patients with lesions on the right cerebral hemisphere were examined on line bisection, line cancellation, figure copying, clock drawing and location on the map.

Unilateral spatial neglect is a common disorder following focal right hemisphere damage, characterised by a failure to perceive and orient towards stimuli located on the left side of space. These deficits are not attributable to primary sensory or motor loss, but involve a neuropsychological disturbance in the representation of space (corporeal and ...
