On the Unitary Similarity of Matrix Families [PDF]
The classical Specht criterion for the unitary similarity between two complex n × n matrices is extended to the unitary similarity between two normal matrix sets of cardinality m. This property means that the algebra generated by a set is closed with respect to the conjugate transpose operation.

Eigenvalues of the Sum of Matrices from Unitary Similarity Orbits
SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 2008For a fixed (complex) matrix \(A\), its unitary similarity orbit is defined as \({\mathcal U}(A)=\{U^*AU: U~\text{unitary}\}\). The Davis-Wielandt (DW) shell of \(A\) is \[ \text{DW}(A)=\{(x^*Ax,x^*A^*Ax), \;x\in{\mathbb C}^n,\;\|x\|=1\}\subset {\mathbb C}\times {\mathbb R} \] which can be considered as an object in \({\mathbb R}^3\).

Unitary Similarity Preserving Linear Maps on B(H)
Integral Equations and Operator Theory, 2014Let \(\mathcal{B(H)}\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\). For \(A,B\in \mathcal{B(H)}\) we say that \(A\) and \(B\) are unitarily similar whenever there exists a unitary operator \(U\in \mathcal{B(H)}\) such that \(A=U^{\ast }BU\). In the paper under review, the authors prove the following result.

Unitary similarity of algebras generated by pairs of orthoprojectors [PDF]
Summary: It is shown that the unitary similarity of two matrix algebras generated by pairs of orthoprojectors \(\{P_1,Q_1\}\) and \(\{P_2,Q_2\}\) can be verified by comparing the traces of \(P_1\), \(Q_1\), and \((P_1 Q_1)^i\), \(i= 1,2,\dots,n\), with those of \(P_2\), \(Q_2\), and \((P_2Q_2)^i\).

Image hiding using unitary similarity transformation
2011 International Conference on Image Information Processing, 2011A different and efficient method of image hiding is proposed here. It is based on unitary similarity transformation, involving calculation of eigen values and eigen vectors of a matrix and then transforming it into a diagonal matrix. Only secret image needs to be transformed and is then embedded to the cover image. Inverse transformation can be used to

On the number of unitary similarity classes in a C-S equivalence class: the normal case
A matrix B∈Mn is C-S equivalent to A∈Mn if B is both congruent and similar to A. We study the question of how many unitary similarity classes lie in the C-S equivalence class of a given matrix A.
