Evaluating Satellite and Reanalysis Rainfall Estimates for Climate Services in Agriculture: A Comprehensive Methodology

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 33, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
This paper presents a comprehensive methodology for evaluating the ability of satellite and reanalysis rainfall data to provide localised, historical rainfall information for agricultural applications. This meets a major need for location‐specific rainfall information to improve climate information services for millions of small‐holder farming ...

Making and developing the digital elevation models by geostatistical methods

open access: yesGeodesy and Cartography, 2012
The methods for estimation of modelling and accuracy of digital elevation models were analysed. The methods for making raster elevation models were compared.

Irrigation Monitoring With Cosmic‐Ray Neutron Sensors: Unraveling Field Experiments With Neutron Transport Simulations

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Irrigation is essential for stabilizing yields and sustaining food production, yet it faces increasing challenges, especially in water‐scarce regions. Cosmic‐ray neutron sensors (CRNS) are a promising tool in irrigation management as they can continuously monitor soil water content (SWC) over large areas.

Kriging Methodology for Uncertainty Quantification in Computational Electromagnetics

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation
We present the implementation and use of the Kriging methodology, i.e., surrogate models based on Kriging interpolation, in uncertainty quantification (UQ) in computational electromagnetics (CEM).

Calibration and Improved Prediction of Computer Models by Universal Kriging [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Science and Engineering, 2014
This paper addresses the use of experimental data for calibrating a computer model and improving its predictions of the underlying physical system. A global statistical approach is proposed in which the bias between the computer model and the physical system is modeled as a realization of a Gaussian process.

Accuracy Analysis of Precipitation Regionalization Methods Based on Spatial Interpolation Techniques in Zayandeh-Rud River Basin

open access: yesعلوم آب و خاک, 2019
In the present study, we used 27 precipitation average monthly data from synoptic, climatologic, rain-guage and evaporative stations located in Zayandeh-Rud river basin for the period of 1970-2014.

Estimation of gradients from sparse data by universal kriging [PDF]

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2004
The determination of a gradient, or directional derivative, of a spatial variable is a common problem in many Earth science applications. For hydraulic heads, for example, the gradient defines the direction of the groundwater flow and is used in solving groundwater flow and transport equations.

Investigating Anthropogenic and Social Influences on Diet of Semi‐Urban Vervet Monkeys Using DNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We used eDNA metabarcoding of faecal samples to quantify the dietary composition of two vervet monkey populations in a semi‐urban environment in South Africa over a 4‐month period, and compared these results with visual observations. We found that both methods yielded similar results, but eDNA metabarcoding revealed a greater diversity of consumed taxa.

Detected Shifts Towards Drought‐Adaptive Strategies in the Amazon Forest Over the Last Four Decades

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 2, February 2026.
Amazon forests are facing hotter, drier conditions, and we used 40 years of satellite data to look for early signs of ecological change. Combining satellite observations with leaf measurements from more than 3000 trees, we show that many forests now show smaller dry‐season fluctuations in canopy colour—especially in the southern and eastern Amazon ...

Uncovering Archaeological Treasures at Saruq al‐Hadid, UAE: Insights From Ground Penetrating Radar and Magnetic Data

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, Volume 33, Issue 1, Page 37-61, January/March 2026.
ABSTRACT Saruq al‐Hadid, located at the edge of the Rub Al‐Khali desert near Dubai's southern border with Abu Dhabi, is among the region's richest archaeological sites. Renowned for its historical role in metallurgy, trade and human habitation, the site was occupied from the Umm an‐Nar period through the post–Iron Age. Despite its significance, much of
