Biodistribution of single and aggregated gold nanoparticles exposed to the human lung epithelial tissue barrier at the air-liquid interface

open access: yesParticle and Fibre Toxicology, 2017
Background The lung represents the primary entry route for airborne particles into the human body. Most studies addressed possible adverse effects using single (nano)particles, but aerosolic nanoparticles (NPs) tend to aggregate and form structures of ...

Cellular uptake and cell-to-cell transfer of polyelectrolyte microcapsules within a triple co-culture system representing parts of the respiratory tract

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2015
Polyelectrolyte multilayer microcapsules around 3.4 micrometers in diameter were added to epithelial cells, monocyte-derived macrophages, and dendritic cells in vitro and their uptake kinetics were quantified.

Countermovement Jump Training Is More Effective Than Drop Jump Training in Enhancing Jump Height in Non-professional Female Volleyball Players

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of countermovement jump (CMJ) and drop jump (DJ) training on the volleyball-specific jumping ability of non-professional female volleyball players. For that purpose, 26 female volleyball players (15–

Electron-momentum dependence of electron-phonon coupling underlies dramatic phonon renormalization in YNi2B2C

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Phonon anomalies are commonly attributed to Fermi-surface nesting or phonon anharmonicity, but these mechanisms do not apply in all cases. Here, the authors propose a new mechanism based on electron-momentum-dependent electron-phonon coupling in the case

Persistence of structural distortion and bulk band Rashba splitting in SnTe above its ferroelectric critical temperature [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The ferroelectric semiconductor $\alpha$-SnTe has been regarded as a topological crystalline insulator and the dispersion of its surface states has been intensively measured with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) over the last decade.

Universal 1/f Noise from Dissipative SOC Models [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 82}, 472 (1999), 1998
We introduce a model able to reproduce the main features of 1/f noise: hyper-universality (the power-law exponents are independent on the dimension of the system; we show here results in d=1,2) and apparent lack of a low-frequency cutoff in the power spectrum. Essential ingredients of this model are an activation-deactivation process and dissipation.

Antifungal properties of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) seedling homogenates

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
The presence of antimicrobials in root, hypocotyl and cotyledon homogenates of Norway spruce was studied using in vitro assays with soil-borne pathogens.

Description and phylogenetic relationships of a new species of Torvoneustes (Crocodylomorpha, Thalattosuchia) from the Kimmeridgian of Switzerland [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2023
Metriorhynchids are marine crocodylomorphs found across Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous deposits of Europe and Central and South America. Despite being one of the oldest fossil families named in paleontology, the phylogenetic relationships within ...
