Slip instability mechanisms of filled faults under unloading: Coupled influences of fault undulation and unloading rate

open access: yes
To reveal the coupled mechanism and precursory response characteristics of slip instability in filled faults under unloading conditions, biaxial loading-unloading tests were conducted on four fault models filled with fault gouge. Two fault undulation angles, 0° and 9°, and two unloading rates, 0.05 and 0.10 kN/s were considered.

Determination of Optimum N2 Rate for Unloading Gas Wells With Coiled Tubing

open access: yesSPE/ICoTA Coiled Tubing & Well Intervention Conference and Exhibition, 2011
Abstract Unloading gas wells with nitrogen (N2) is one of the most common applications of coiled tubing (CT). The unique feature of CT unloading, as compared to conventional gas lift, is that the gas injection depth can be changed continuously.

Gas Condensate Well Unloading Critical Rate

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2013
Abstract Profile of critical rate for 106 vertical wells producing from high pressure formations has been used to determine an unloading critical rate for well producing gas and condensate. The evaluation involved loaded, questionable and unloaded wells.

Effect of unloading on crack growth rate of Zr–2.5Nb tubes

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2010
Abstract Crack growth rates (CGRs) of a heat-treated Zr–2.5Nb tube were determined using compact tension specimens with 60 ppm H at 250 °C under the constant and cyclic loads where the load ratio R was changed from 0.13 to 0.68. CGR was the highest under the constant load and decreased under the cyclic load with decreasing R despite a decrease ...

Modeling Aspects of a Rate-Controlled Seizure in an Unloaded Journal Bearing

Tribology Transactions, 1998
Thermally induced seizure can lead to a rapid catastrophic bearing failure. An analytical model was developed to study this phenomenon in an unloaded journal bearing. The model consisted of two concentric cylinders containing lubricant in which the inner one rotates at a specified rpm and the outer cylinder is stationary.

Annulus Unloading Rates as Influenced by Wellbore Storage and Skin Effect

Society of Petroleum Engineers Journal, 1972
Abstract The modern trend in well testing (buildup or drawdown) bas been toward acquisition and analysis of short-time data. Pressure data early in a test are usually distorted by several factors that mask the conventional straight line. Some of the factors are wellbore storage and various skin effects such as those

Left ventricular unloading decreases rate of isovolumic right ventricular pressure decline

American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1993
To determine whether direct ventricular interaction affects right ventricular (RV) relaxation, we compared the minimum rate of change of RV pressure (dP/dtmin) and the time constant, tau, of isovolumic RV pressure decline in open-chest, anesthetized pigs following a normal left ventricular (LV) contraction and an acutely unloaded LV contraction. Rapid
