Influence of Fe Particle Size Distribution on Chemical Homogeneity, Microstructure, and Crack Formation in Fe–SiC Powder Blends Processed by PBF‐LB/M

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of Fe particle size on in situ alloying of Fe–SiC powder blends in PBF‐LB/M is revealed. Contrary to expectations, the coarser Fe fraction provides a broader crack‐free processing window and slightly improved elemental homogeneity while producing higher but more variable hardness. The results highlight a complex trade‐off between particle

Effect Of Loading Strain Rates On Unloading Behavior Of Shot Peened Materials [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Canadian Mechanical Engineering, 2018
Shot peening is a process widely used in industry to improve the fatigue life of materials through induced compressive residual stresses that retard crack initiation and growth. In the peening process, there are two stages: 1) loading: shot penetrating into target; and 2) unloading: shot rebounding from the target.
