Unobserved Heterogeneity and International Benchmarking in Public Transport [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2009
We analyze the technical efficiency of German and Swiss urban public transport companies by means of SFA. In transport networks we might face different network structures or complexities, not observed, but influencing the production process. The unobserved factors are typically modeled as separable factors.

Discretizing Unobserved Heterogeneity

open access: yes, 2021
We study discrete panel data methods where unobserved heterogeneity is revealed in a first step, in environments where population heterogeneity is not discrete. We focus on two-step grouped fixed-effects (GFE) estimators, where individuals are first classified into groups using kmeans clustering, and the model is then estimated allowing for group ...

A latent curve analysis of unobserved heterogeneity in university achievements

open access: yesStatistica, 2013
The aim of this paper is to analyze the academic achievement of a cohort of students enrolled in 2001 at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Bologna by using a latent growth model for longitudinal data.

Antecedents of online purchase intention and behaviour: uncovering unobserved heterogeneity

open access: yesJournal of Business Economics and Management, 2019
The paper aims at exploring the antecedents of customers’ online purchase intention and behaviour, and at uncovering sources of heterogeneity. A sample of customers was surveyed to measure perceived risk and benefits, trust, online purchase intention and

Approximation of Zero-Inflated Poisson Credibility Premium via Variational Bayes Approach

open access: yesRisks, 2022
While both zero-inflation and the unobserved heterogeneity in risks are prevalent issues in modeling insurance claim counts, determination of Bayesian credibility premium of the claim counts with these features are often demanding due to high ...

Unobserved heterogeneity and reserve prices in auctions [PDF]

open access: yesThe RAND Journal of Economics, 2009
This article shows how reserve prices can be used to control for unobserved object heterogeneity to identify and estimate the distribution of bidder values in auctions. Reserve prices are assumed to be monotonic in the realization of unobserved heterogeneity, but not necessarily set optimally. The model is estimated using transaction prices from a used

The impact of contactless payment on cash usage at an early stage of diffusion

open access: yesSwiss Journal of Economics and Statistics, 2020
This paper explores the impact of contactless payment on consumers’ demand for cash at an early stage of diffusion. The specific devices that are investigated are debit and credit cards, in which the feature is embedded.

Conditional Duration Model and the Unobserved Market Heterogeneity of Traders: An Infinite Mixture of Non-Exponentials

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Estadística, 2016
This paper extends the conditional duration model proposed by Luca & Zuccolotto (2003) proposing an infinite mixture of distributions based on non-exponentials that account for the unobserved market heterogeneity of traders.

Unobserved Heterogeneity in Matching Games [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Political Economy, 2018
Agents in two-sided matching games vary in characteristics that are unobservable in typical data on matching markets.

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.
