Conflicts and Delay Studies at Unsignalized Intersections

1988
This paper describes simulation models for unsignalized intersections and signalized intersections. The number of conflicts and vehicle delays have been used to evaluate the level of service of unsignalized intersections, where the number of conflicts is used to evaluate the safety effects and delay is used in cost benefit analysis.

CELLULAR AUTOMATA MODEL FOR UNSIGNALIZED T-SHAPED INTERSECTION

International Journal of Modern Physics C, 2009
In this paper, the unsignalized T-shaped intersection is modeled by a cellular automata model. The main street and the minor street join at the intersection. As to the traffic flow is not controlled by traffic lights, conflict happens between the vehicles from minor street and that from main street.

Estimating the Safety Effects of Intersection Sight Distance at Unsignalized Intersections

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2016
A gap acceptance crash is one of the most common types of multivehicle crashes at unsignalized intersections. Drivers’ gap acceptance is influenced by the intersection sight distance (ISD). Before this research, the relationship between ISD and safety (measured by crash frequency) at unsignalized intersections was not quantified.

Augmented Reality Experiment: Drivers' Behavior at an Unsignalized Intersection

IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2013
Applying new technologies to traffic engineering studies has become more urgent due to the high cost and risk associated with ordinary in-the-field testing. Augmented reality (AR) is one of those technologies, in which virtual (computer-generated) objects are added to the real scene in a way that the user cannot distinguish between real and virtual ...

Landscaping of highway medians and roadway safety at unsignalized intersections

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2016
Well-planted and maintained landscaping can help reduce driving stress, provide better visual quality, and decrease over speeding, thus improving roadway safety. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Standard Index (SI-546) is one of the more demanding standards in the U.S.

Simulation of traffic conflicts at unsignalized intersections with TSC-Sim

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 1994
This paper describes a traffic conflicts computer simulation model and graphic display for both T and 4-leg unsignalized intersections. The goal of the model is to study traffic conflicts as critical-event traffic situations and the effect of driver and traffic parameters on the occurrence of conflicts.

A General Capacity Formula for Unsignalized Intersections

1991
A capacity formula for unsignalized intersections is derived that is general enough to be applicable to intersections with non Poissonian traffic streams, with nonho-mogeneous and inconsistent behavior of minor road drivers and to allow taking into account impedance effects. It generalizes most known capacity formulae. The relation to these formulae is

Accident prediction models for unsignalized intersections

2009
The main objective of this thesis is to develop Accident Prediction Models (APM) for estimating the safety potential of urban unsignalized (T and 4-leg) intersections in the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) and Vancouver Island on the basis of their traffic characteristics.

Capacity Models and Parameters for Unsignalized Urban Intersections in Poland

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 2005
Road designers in Poland use capacity methods presented in subsequent issues of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM). The new HCM 2000 gave an impulse for research aimed at evaluating adequacy of the default parameters of the HCM capacity models to the Polish conditions.
