Modeling Crossing Conflicts at Unsignalized T-Intersections under Heterogeneous Traffic Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, 2022
The safety of unsignalized intersections is evaluated by correlating the number of crashes with traffic volume and intersection geometry. However, crash-based safety assessment has known drawbacks related to data quality and coverage.

The impact of the existence of the volunteer on handling the waiting time at unsignalized intersection in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

open access: yesIATSS Research, 2020
This research focuses on the impact of the existence of the volunteer (VO) in managing traffic at unsignalized intersections. VO is a person who manages traffic at unsignalized intersection without the legality of operations but in exchange for financial

Modeling cooperation in unsignalized intersections

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2017
Abstract: The Nordic countries, among others, rely heavily on unsignalized intersections, even in congested conditions. When unsignalized intersections are blocked due to queue spillbacks from downstream bottlenecks, the intersections do not function as intended. Traditional gap acceptance models do not provide realistic results under such conditions.

Effect of Warning System on Interactive Driving Behavior at Unsignalized Intersection under Fog Conditions: A Study Based on Multiuser Driving Simulation

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, 2020
The intersection collision warning system (ICWS) is an emerging technology designed to assist drivers in avoiding collisions at intersections. ICWS has an excellent performance in reducing the number of collisions and improving driving safety.

Review of traffic safety evaluation at T-intersections using surrogate safety measures in developing countries context

open access: yesIATSS Research, 2022
In recent years, significant research has focused on traffic safety evaluations at unsignalized intersections due to complex and heterogeneous traffic movements as well as driver behaviour at such locations.

Investigating the influence of conflicting flow’s composition on critical gap under heterogeneous traffic conditions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Transportation Science and Technology, 2021
The choice to accept or reject an available gap at unsignalized intersections depends on several factors that include driver and vehicle characteristics, intersection geometry, weather conditions, etc. Although drivers in heterogeneous traffic conditions

Generalized gap acceptance models for unsignalized intersections [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Methods of Operations Research, 2019
This paper contributes to the modeling and analysis of unsignalized intersections. In classical gap acceptance models vehicles on the minor road accept any gap greater than the CRITICAL gap, and reject gaps below this threshold, where the gap is the time between two subsequent vehicles on the major road.

Modeling Traffic Flow at an Urban Unsignalized Intersection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This paper proposes a new way to study traffic flow at an urban unsignalised intersection, through detailed space considerations, using cellular automata (CA). Heterogeneity and inconsistency are simulated by incorporation of different categories of driver behaviour and reassignment of categories with given probabilities at each time step.
