Investigation of the Influence of Wake Field Characteristic Structures on Downstream Targets Using the POD Method

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
This research investigated the impact of complex low-speed wake flow structures on the aerodynamic characteristics of objects downstream. It employed the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method and the domain precursor simulation method to compare ...

Numerical Investigation on the Effect of Blockage on the Icing of Airfoils

open access: yesAerospace, 2022
The blockage is one of the important factors affecting the icing of airfoils in wind tunnel tests. In this paper, numerical simulations are conducted to study the effect of blockage on the icing of different airfoils.

Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

Genetic Algorithm Based Optimization of Wing Rotation in Hover

open access: yesFluids, 2018
The pitching kinematics of an experimental hovering flapping wing setup are optimized by means of a genetic algorithm. The pitching kinematics of the setup are parameterized with seven degrees of freedom to allow for complex non-linear and non-harmonic ...

Unsteady flow of a Maxwell nanofluid over a stretching surface in the presence of magnetohydrodynamic and thermal radiation effects

open access: yes, 2017
The problem of unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow of a non-Newtonian Maxwell nanofluid over a stretching surface with thermal radiation is considered. The Maxwell model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behaviour.

Cross‐Scale Hierarchical Targeted Delivery System Based on Small‐Scale Magnetic Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article reviews a cross‐scale hierarchical targeted delivery system that integrates magnetic continuum robots and magnetic microrobots. By combining rapid long‐range navigation with precise microscale targeting, the system overcomes key limitations of single‐scale approaches.

Numerical Analysis of the Three-Dimensional Interaction Between Nanosecond-Pulsed Actuation and Pulsed H2 Jets in Supersonic Crossflow

open access: yesAerospace
A combined flow control method, integrating nanosecond pulsed surface dielectric barrier discharge (NS-SDBD) with pulsed jets, is proposed to address the challenge of low mixing efficiency in supersonic combustion.

Experimental calibration and validation of sewer/surface flow exchange equations in steady and unsteady flow conditions

open access: yes, 2017
The linkage between sewer pipe flow and floodplain flow is recognised to induce an important source of uncertainty within two-dimensional (2D) urban flood models.

Sustainable Fabrication of Tailored Bone Substitutes: From High‐Throughput Scaffold Manufacturing, Scaled‐Up HMSC Expansion to Dynamic Cultivation in a Perfusion Bioreactor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The demand for off‐the‐shelf biocompatible bone substitutes has driven the development of numerous independent in vitro technologies to generate products resembling physiological tissues. Due to technical challenges and overly simplified cultivation approaches/niches, the end‐products are often uniformly shaped and inferior to native bone ...

Numerical Method for Aeroelastic Simulation of Flexible Aircraft in High Maneuver Flight Based on Rigid–Flexible Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Traditional elastic correction methods fail to address the significant aeroelastic interactions arising from unsteady flow fields and structural deformations during aggressive maneuvers.
