Is nondomination a social ideal?

open access: yesThe Southern Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract According to a prominent strain of thought in the republican tradition, nondomination is a social ideal, in the sense that it can be enjoyed only by living in the right sort of political community with others, rather than by simply withdrawing from others altogether.

Fugitive Junctures: Life‐Seeking, Route‐Finding and the Mobile Ensemble at Kenya's Borders

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, EarlyView.
Short Abstract Fugitivity has become an important conceptual frame to understand the illegalised mobilities of contemporary migrants in conjunction with enslaved people's historical lines of flight as spatial praxes to seize their own freedom. Thinking from Kenya, and drawing on research with migrants, border officials, activists, police and smugglers,

Adaptive Algal Cultivation Enabled by a Monthly Biomass Forecasting System

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 3, Page 724-741, March 2026.
The developed monthly algal forecasting system used to predict biomass production for two algal strains (A and B) at two pond water depths (low and high). The highest predicted production, achieved with strain A at a low pond water depth, is selected as the cultivation strategy to guide the next month's algal growth.

Ghost effect from Boltzmann theory

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 79, Issue 3, Page 558-675, March 2026.
Abstract Taking place naturally in a gas subject to a given wall temperature distribution, the “ghost effect” exhibits a rare kinetic effect beyond the prediction of classical fluid theory and Fourier law in such a classical problem in physics. As the Knudsen number ε$\varepsilon$ goes to zero, the finite variation of temperature in the bulk is ...

CALCULATION OF HYDRO-STREAM PARAMETERS DURING FLUID ACCELERATION IN HALF-CLOSED CHAMBER WITH EXIT TO FLAT SURFACE

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2005
The paper presents a method for calculation of maximum fluid velocity in a process chamber that is installed with a gap relative to the surface to be cleaned while burning gaseous mixture composed of 2H2 + O2 in the chamber.

Control Effectiveness of Vortex Generators in High‐Speed Flows in Off‐Design Conditions

open access: yesPAMM, Volume 26, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT In aerospace transportation and propulsion systems, shock‐induced flow separation has strong detrimental effects on the aerodynamic behavior and performance. To alleviate these effects, separation control is necessary. A commonly pursued approach uses vortex generators (VG) of different design to increase the momentum transfer within the ...

Innovative Fluid Mechanics Education Through Augmented Reality and Interactive Learning

open access: yesPAMM, Volume 26, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Traditional pedagogical setups in laboratories are often outdated and do not provide the necessary support for effective learning. Teaching fluid mechanics poses additional significant challenges, particularly due to the need to visualize invisible properties, like velocity vector fields (velocity) or scalar pressure fields in time‐dependent ...

Listen Closely: Measuring Vocal Tone in Corporate Disclosures

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, Volume 64, Issue 1, Page 229-277, March 2026.
ABSTRACT We examine the usefulness of machine learning approaches for measuring vocal tone in corporate disclosures. We document a substantial mismatch between the widely adopted actor‐based training data underlying these approaches and speech in corporate disclosures.

Assessment of Vehicle Stability Processes Under Unsteady Flow Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 19, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The vehicle stability criteria are based on experimental and theoretical studies that do not account for the unsteady nature of floods. The rapid variation of depths and velocities in floods causes an additional hydrodynamic force in the direction of the flow, destabilising a vehicle that would otherwise be safe in steady flow conditions. This

A Jacobian‐Free Newton‐Krylov Method for Cell‐Centred Finite Volume Solid Mechanics

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 3, 15 February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study proposes a Jacobian‐free Newton‐Krylov approach for finite‐volume solid mechanics. Traditional Newton‐based approaches require explicit Jacobian matrix formation and storage, which can be computationally expensive and memory‐intensive.
