When a rigid body departs from a uniform motion in a fluid, it is usual to assume that the forces and moments exerted on the body at any instant by the fluid are determined by the motion at that instant. This is the assumption of “quasi-steady flow” and it is on this basis that the fluid forces and moments are represented.

Study of unsteady fluid-dynamic forces acting on a flexible cylinder in a concentric annulus
KSME Journal, 1993The unsteady fluid-dynamic forces, generated by a flexural motion in axial (laminar) flow, have been formulated based on a collocation finite-difference method for concentric configurations, in connection with the flow-induced vibration problem. Based on the numerical method, the governing equations of the unsteady flow, obtained from the appropriate ...

Note on the memory force on a slightly eccentric fluid spheroid in unsteady creeping flows
Physics of Fluids, 2006The transient Stokes equations are solved inside and outside a slightly eccentric fluid spheroid, which oscillates about its zero-mean position in an unbounded viscous medium. By using techniques of regular perturbations, the internal and the external flow fields are determined, and a first approximation of the hydrodynamic force is derived.

Calculation of Unsteady Forces Acting on the Profiles of Double Cascade Oscillating in a Fluid Flow
1998Introduction. During turbine operation the unsteady hydrodynamic forces on each blade depend not only on an shape, a stagger angle and oscillation law of considered blade, but also on the geometrical parameters and oscillation laws of the rest of turbine blades. For the turbine vane, which is constructed from the double blades (main and auxiliary) (Fig.
