Unsteady forces on oscillating hydrofoils
1966An experimental apparatus is described which has proved to be well suited to the determination of the unsteady lift forces on a hydrofoil oscillating in heave under a free surface. Results are presented for tests covering a wide range of reduced frequency with several foil models in fully wetted, base-ventilated, and supercavitating flow.

Unsteady Force Calculations in Turbomachinery
1991Abstract : This report gives a review of the various types of unsteady flow phenomena that occur within a turbomachine and examines existing methods for computing several of these flows. Then, we discuss a method for applying two- dimensional, unsteady, thin airfoil theory in a stripwise manner to computer the unsteady forces and moments on the shaft ...

Unsteady Forced Vibration of Solids
2004Using the wave approach, a diversity of unsteady (non-stationary, transient) dynamic processes in elastic and inelastic solids can be numerically simulated, including nonlinear problems.

Machine learning to forecast unsteady, motion-induced unsteady forces
In this paper, the combination of an auto-encoder coupled with a transformer is presented to predict unsteady surface pressures due to forced excitation. While the used neural-network architecture operates in the the time domain, training data are computed with the linearized, frequency-domain CFD solver for a generic, high-aspect-ratio wing.Thormann, Reik, Bleecke, Hans M.

Problems in Forced Unsteady Fluid Mechanics.
1981Abstract : Forced unsteady fluid flows are examined from the point of view of positive implications of the time dependency. Particular problems examined in a forced unsteady mode are jets, wind tunnels, wings, ramps and diffusers, dump combustors and vortex structure.

UNSTEADY LIFT FORCE ON A TOWED SPHERE
Journal of Fluids and Structures, 1998Abstract An experimental effort to characterize the broadband flow-induced lift forces on a spherical body that is towed underwater is described. The body itself is the transducer which is comprised of a small geophone encased in a near-neutrally-buoyant sphere, 7·62 cm in diameter.

The forces on a fish-inspired unsteady hydrofoil [PDF]
The flow around an unsteady hydrofoil, undergoing simultaneous heaving and pitching motions which mimic the tail motions of carangiform fish (such as tuna), was investigated using simultaneous particle image velocimetry (PIV) and force measurement. These investigations were performed at Reynolds numbers, based on the foil chord length, in the range of ...

MEASUREMENT OF THE UNSTEADY AXIAL FLOW FORCE ON A SPOOL VALVE
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1980Abstract Recently, the band width of servo systems is required strictly to be broaden, consequently the fast response of spool valves which play important roles in the systems is also strongly required. In a spool valve, flow force is applied to the spool in its axial direction by the fluid, because of the change in the momentum of the fluid flowing ...

A dynamic forcing method for unsteady turbulent inflow conditions
Journal of Computational Physics, 2011The present paper aims to provide an efficient and flexible method for the initialization of a zonal RANS/LES type calculation when the resolution of the near wall region is treated in RANS mode. Indeed, when part of the boundary layer must be resolved in LES mode, one generally experiences a very long transient state, which makes this approach ...

An Investigation Into Unsteady Blade Forces in Turbomachines
Journal of Engineering for Power, 1965The wake interaction problem in a turbomachine has been simulated in a water table. The pressure distribution over a compressor blade during a passage of a wake shed by an upstream wake generator has been determined experimentally using specially developed piezoelectric pressure transducers.
