Ethnography Upgraded

open access: yesQualitative Sociology, 2022
The basic practice of ethnography has essentially remained unchanged in hundreds of years. How has online life changed things? I contrast two transformative inventions, the telephone and the internet, with respect to their impact on fieldwork. I argue that our current era has created entirely new constraints and opportunities for ethnographic research.

Does industrial up-gradation, environment regulations, and resource allocation impact on foreign direct investment: Empirical evidence from China

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2022
Because of China’s tremendous increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) over the past two decades, this method of internationalization has become increasingly significant for companies worldwide.

The Superhilac Upgrade Project [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1985
This project will increase the uranium output of the Bevalac heavy-ion facility from the currently available 107 to 5×107 ions/pulse, allowing accurate Lamb shift measurements to be made in U90+ and U91+ with important applications to the testing of quantum electrodynamics and the development of an x-ray laser.

Scalability of the Microbial Electro-acetogenesis Process for Biogas Upgradation: Performance and Technoeconomic Assessment of a Liter-Scale System

open access: yes, 2023
Biogas is a promising sustainable alternative energy source, but its high CO2 content reduces its energy density and calorific value, making it unsuitable for use as a fuel or for other applications.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Wearable Smart Patches on Sustainable Chitosan With Reversible Microbial Growth‐Inhibitory Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chitosan, a polysaccharide upcycled from biowaste, has long promised sustainable, biocompatible, and antimicrobial films and devices, an appeal reinforced by its recent regulatory recognition, with several chitosan‐based antibacterial dressings gaining clearance through the Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) pathway.

Multi-Range Sequential Learning Based Dark Image Enhancement with Color Upgradation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Images under low-light conditions suffer from noise, blurring, and low contrast, thus limiting the precise detection of objects. For this purpose, a novel method is introduced based on convolutional neural network (CNN) dual attention unit (DAU) and ...

Lewis Acid Site Engineering in MOF‐Derived Aluminum Oxide/Carbon Composites for Dechlorination of Waste Plastic Pyrolysis Oil

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled carbonization of an Al‐MOF partially decomposes its linkers, exposing coordinatively unsaturated Al centers within an oxide/carbon composite. The resulting Lewis acid sites, rather than surface area, govern organochlorine capture: the composite removes chemically diverse organochlorines from waste plastic pyrolysis oil, outperforms a ...

A Hybrid Bioprinting–Microfabrication Approach to Controllable Multitype Spheroid Arrays for Modeling Tumor Heterogeneity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a “cancer‐in‐a‐well” technology that recreates tumor heterogeneity in vitro using multitype spheroid arrays. Combining bioprinting/microdispensing with microstructured culture devices, the system improves drug screening and modeling of tumor complexity.

Use of ultrasound in petroleum residue upgradation

open access: yes, 2009
Conventional processes for the upgradation of residual feedstocks, viz., thermal cracking and catalytic cracking are carried out in the temperature range of 400-520°C. Such high temperatures can in principle be substituted by acoustic cavitation.
