Gel Volume Near the Critical Point of Binary Mixture Isobutyric Acid–Water
The volume of a cylindrical polyacrylamide gel was measured when immersed in a binary mixture of isobutyric acid–water at different temperatures and weight fractions of isobutyric acid.

Influence of gap structures to specific heat in oriented magnetic fields: Application to the orbital dependent superconductor, Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ [PDF]
We discuss influence of modulation of gap function and anisotropy of Fermi velocity to field angle dependences of upper critical field, $H_{c2}$, and specific heat, $C$, on the basis of the approximate analytic solution in the quasiclassical formalism ...

New parametrization method for dissipative particle dynamics [PDF]
We introduce an improved method of parameterizing the Groot-Warren version of Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD) by exploiting a correspondence between DPD and Scatchard-Hildebrand regular solution theory.

Tuning the Size of Thermoresponsive Poly(N-Isopropyl Acrylamide) Grafted Silica Microgels
Core-shell microgels were synthesized via a free radical emulsion polymerization of thermoresponsive poly-(N-isopropyl acrylamide), pNipam, on the surface of silica nanoparticles. Pure pNipam microgels have a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of

Phase transition oscillations induced by a strongly focused laser beam [PDF]
We report here the observation of a surprising phenomenon consisting in a oscillating phase transition which appears in a binary mixture, PMMA/3-octanone, when this is enlightened by a strongly focused infrared laser beam.

How to manipulate the upper critical solution temperature (UCST)?
In this mini-review, we discuss multi-stimuli-responsive polymers, which exhibit upper critical solution temperature (UCST) behavior mainly in aqueous solutions. Firstly, we discuss both the lower and upper critical solution temperature behavior of thermoresponsive polymers, to understand the differences between the two.

Colloid-stabilized emulsions: behaviour as the interfacial tension is reduced [PDF]
We present confocal microscopy studies of novel particle-stabilized emulsions. The novelty arises because the immiscible fluids have an accessible upper critical solution temperature.

The monomer 2-methacrylamido-caprolactam (4) was synthesized from methacryloyl chloride (3) and racemic α-amino-ε-caprolactam (2). Copolymerization of 4 with N,N-dimethylacrylamide (5) was carried out by a free-radical mechanism using 2,2’-azobis(2 ...

Impact of non-ideality on mixing of hydrocarbons and water at supercritical or near-critical conditions [PDF]
The mixing of a single-component or multi-component hydrocarbon (HC) droplet in supercritical or near-critical water (SCW/NCW) is modeled. Transport, thermodynamics, and phase equilibrium sub-models are used to estimate the relevant physical properties ...
