Tidal dynamics and energy budget in the Gulf of California
The dynamics and energetic behavior of the tides in the Gulf of California were studied with their principal constituents. Three cases were chosen: the first included the M2 constituent; the second, the two principal semidiurnal constituents; and the ...

Early Pliocene Varanus (Squamata, Varanidae) remains from Megalo Emvolon, Thessaloniki, Greece
The article describes new cranial and postcranial varanid material from Megalo Emvolon Lower Pliocene vertebrate fossil site near Thessaloniki. The fossils, likely representing a single individual, are referred to Varanus cf. marathonensis. Abstract This study describes new fossil varanid material from a recently discovered fossil spot (MVL site) at ...

Chemical alteration of the Pleistocene sediments under influence basaltic sills in the Guaymas Basin, Gulf of California [PDF]
In Guaymas Basin of the Gulf of California Holes DSDP 478 и 481A were drilled (Ocean Drilling Program). Studying of the cores from the holes showed the alteration of chemical composition of sediments in zones of contacts with basaltic sills.

Abstract The study of morphological evolution is fundamentally tied to ontogeny, yet studies of these heterochronic processes in the fossil record are rare. Fossils belonging to an ontogenetic series are difficult to assign to an ontogenetic stage due to inconsistent proxies for skeletal ages, challenging to taxonomically assign due to morphological ...

The upper mantle beneath the north-east Pacific rim: a comparison with the Gulf of California [PDF]
Summary. Seismograms from 22 earthquakes along the north-east Pacific rim recorded in southern California form the data set for investigation of the upper mantle beneath the Cascade Range-Juan de Fuca region, a transitional area encompassing both very young ocean floor and a continental margin. These data consist of 853 seismograms (6" < A < 42") which

Abstract Softshell turtles (Pan‐Trionychidae) are an early branching clade of hidden‐necked turtles (Cryptodira) with a rich fossil record extending back to the Early Cretaceous. The evolutionary history of softshell turtles is still unresolved because of their conservative morphology combined with high levels of polymorphism related to morphological ...

Dental crown morphological variation and heterodonty in carcharhiniform sharks
Abstract Elasmobranch teeth are highly mineralized structures that constitute the majority of the fossil record for this group. Despite their taxonomic and evolutionary significance, detailed descriptions of dental morphology remain scarce. The order Carcharhiniformes, the most diverse among sharks, comprises 304 valid species that display remarkable ...

Computational fluid dynamics simulations of airflow through the nasal passages of rhinolophoid bats
Abstract The nasal passages of bats that emit their echolocation call through their nostrils have adapted for sound emission as well as standard respiratory and olfactory functions. Rhinolophids, hipposiderids and rhinonycterids all use a high duty cycle (HDC) echolocation strategy.
