Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Four cases of upper urinary tract transitional cell carcinoma after radical cystectomy in bladder cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
One hundred and eighty-six patients with primary transitional cell carcinoma underwent radical cystectomy between 1965 to December, 1986. Four of them (2.2%) had developed upper urinary tract transitional cell carcinoma.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Complex Reconstruction of a Massive Shoulder and Chest Wall Defect: De-Bone Appétit Flap

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Case Reports, 2010
We report the use of a fillet of upper arm pedicled flap, which has not been previously reported in the literature. The fillet of upper arm flap follows the principle of “spare parts” surgery, and can provide vascularized soft tissue coverage for defects

Radical radiation therapy for esophageal carcinoma in situs inversus totalis with the history of surgery for lung cancer: a case report

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare congenital anatomical variation. This case report describes the first instance of a patient with both lung and esophageal cancer along with SIT.

Preoperative serum pre-albumin as an independent prognostic indicator in patients with localized upper tract urothelial carcinoma after radical nephroureterectomy

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2016
Purpose To investigate the prognostic value of preoperative pre-albumin and albumin level in patients with localized upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) undergoing radical nephroureterectomy.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Current Status of Laparoscopic Radical Nephroureterectomy in the Treatment Modalities for Upper Urinary Tract Tumors

open access: yes, 2014
The standard treatment for upper urinary tract tumors is still open radical nephroureterectomy (ORNU), i.e. excision of the kidney with entire length of ureter and adjacent segment of bladder cuff.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
