Upscaling Extent vs. Information Loss in Reservoir Upscaling

Petroleum Science and Technology, 2010
Upscaling has become an increasingly important tool in recent years for converting highly detailed geological models of a reservoir to simulation grids. The main idea of upscaling is to replace a number of heterogeneous fine grid blocks with one equivalent coarse homogeneous grid block.

Upscale Markets

Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly, 1991
Although New York City and Washington, D.C., are both large, gateway cities located on the Atlantic seaboard, their upscale hotel markets are not as similar as one might predict. New York's hotels achieve higher rates but have higher costs than those in Washington.

Efficient upscaling of ocean biogeochemistry

Ocean Modelling, 2013
More accurate methods are needed to represent biogeochemistry in ocean models with coarse spatial resolution, in order to assess the response of marine ecosystems to global change. We use eddy-resolving simulations to test methods of upscaling biogeochemistry from 1 km to the 100 km scale of global model grid cells.

Sharpness-preservation video upscaling

2017 10th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, BioMedical Engineering and Informatics (CISP-BMEI), 2017
Video upscaling is a common task performing the adaption of the actual video resolution to the screen display area. The extensively used interpolation methods are easily implemented but usually result in some artifacts, such as blurring and aliasing effects.

Upscaling: a review

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 2002
AbstractPorous media have properties with heterogeneities on several length scales. It is possible to build digital models of such properties. However these can be so detailed that a computing machine of the same power as that used to build the property model is not able to solve the fluid flow equations using standard discretisation methods—storage is

Upscaling Single-Bubble Sonoluminescence

2003
In the few years after the discovery of stable single-bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL), experiments and theoretical calculations have only explored a small fraction of the high-dimensional space of experimental parameters that governs the occurrence of this phenomenon.

Upscaling Downtown

2014
Once known for slum-like conditions in its immigrant and working-class neighborhoods, New York City's downtown now features luxury housing, chic boutiques and hotels, and, most notably, a vibrant nightlife culture. While a burgeoning bar scene can be viewed as a positive sign of urban transformation, tensions lurk beneath, reflecting the social ...
