Upward positive lightning measured at the Peissenberg Tower, Germany [PDF]
Subject matter of the paper is the analysis of six upward positive lightning initiated from the Peissenberg Tower, Germany. All of them occurred during the cold season from February to April in the years 1997 to 1999. Three of them were initiated without nearby preceding lightning activity (called “self-initiated” upward lightning) and the other three ...

On the classification of self-triggered versus other-triggered lightning flashes [PDF]
We present in this paper lightning current measurements and LMA (Lightning Mapping Array) data associated with upward flashes observed at the Sàntis Tower during Summer 2017.

ABSTRACT Data from five rocket‐triggered lightning flashes are adopted to analyse the correlated transient response of buried cables and lightning channel radiations. These five flashes have the same termination point that is right above the buried cables and involve a total of 32 return strokes.

X-ray Observations at Gaisberg Tower
We report the occurrence of X-rays at ground level due to cloud-to-ground flashes of upward-initiated lightning from Gaisberg Tower, in Austria, which is located at an altitude of 1300 m.

FORTE Measurements of Global Lightning Altitudes
While multiple lightning detection systems provide geographical locations of lightning events across the globe, robust lightning altitude measurements on a global scale have proven elusive.

Rigid jumper is usually used in the strained angled tower for the UHV transmission project, which makes the protection angle of the ground wire to the jumper end larger, thus the lightning shielding failure risk of the strained angled tower may increase.

Characterization of the chemical signatures of air masses observed during the PEM experiments over the western Pacific [PDF]
Extensive observations of tropospheric trace species during the second NASA Global Tropospheric Experiment Western Pacific Exploratory Mission (PEM-West B) in February-March 1994 showed significant seasonal variability in comparison with the first ...

Two upward lightning at the Eagle Nest tower
A new instrument composed by a high speed camera, two high energy detectors, a E-field antenna and a VHF antenna were installed at the Eagle Nest tower (northeast of Spain) during summer 2011. With this equipment several lightning flashes to the tower and its vicinity have been observed.

Study of Positive Corona Discharge of Needle Plate Electrodes in Airflow
ABSTRACT For high‐speed moving objects such as aircraft and wind turbine blades, discharge occurs under strong airflow. Research on lightning attachment characteristics has been extensive, whereas the role of corona discharge in pre‐breakdown streamer development has received less attention.

A Multiyear CONUS‐Wide Analysis of Lightning Strikes to Wind Turbines
Lightning strikes to wind turbines (WTs) pose significant hazards and operational costs to the renewable wind industry. These strikes fall into two categories: downward cloud‐to‐ground (CG) strokes and upward discharges, which can be self‐initiated or ...
