Existence of undiscovered Uranian satellites [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Structure in the Uranian ring system as observed in recent occultations may contain indirect evidence for the existence of undiscovered satellites. Using the Alfven and Arrhenius (1975, 1976) scenario for the formation of planetary systems, the orbital radii of up to nine hypothetical satellites interior to Miranda are computed.

CCD astrometric observations of Uranian satellites: 1995-1998 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics Supplement Series, 1999
Astrometric positions of the ve largest Uranian satellites from 750 CCD frames taken at the oppositions of 1995 through 1998 are presented. The im- ages were obtained over 35 nights. Observed positions are compared with the calculated positions from GUST86.

Astrometry of five major Uranian satellites in 1995–1997 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2002
At the oppositions of 1995-1997, a total of 122 CCD frames were taken on the 1.56 m astrometric telescope at the Sheshan station, yielding 864 positions of the major Uranian satellites. The calibration of the images was carried out using a least-squares iterative program by fitting to the well-known orbits of the brighter moons of Uranus, based on the ...

Dynamical evolution of the Uranian satellite system I.

open access: yesIcarus
Mutual gravitational interactions between the five major Uranian satellites raise small quasi-periodic fluctuations on their orbital elements. At the same time, tidal interactions between the satellites and the planet induce a slow outward drift of the ...

JWST Spectrophotometry of the Small Satellites of Uranus and Neptune

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
We use 1.4–4.6 μ m multiband photometry of the small inner Uranian and Neptunian satellites obtained with the James Webb Space Telescope’s near-infrared imager NIRCam to characterize their surface compositions.

Web of resonances and possible path of evolution of the small Uranian satellites

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 2022
Satellite systems around giant planets are immersed in a region of complex resonant configurations. Understanding the role of satellite resonances contributes to comprehending the dynamical processes in planetary formation and posterior evolution. Our main goal is to analyse the resonant structure of small moons around Uranus and propose different ...

Simple-to-complex crater transition for the Uranian satellites Ariel and Miranda

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets
The latest decadal survey identified the Uranus system as the highest-priority new target for a NASA Flagship mission. Ariel and Miranda are potential ocean worlds with evidence of resurfacing potentially due to past elevated heat flow. Learning about the geologic histories of these icy moons is important for understanding the potential for life in the

Astrometric results of observations of mutual occultations and eclipses of the Uranian satellites in 2007 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Context. The photometry of mutual occultations and eclipses of natural planetary satellites can be used to infer very accurate astrometric data.

Titania's Heat Fluxes Revealed by Messina Chasmata

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
Messina Chasmata is a relatively young tectonic structure on Titania based on cross-cutting relationships, although an absolute age has not been estimated.
