Transfer Learning Neural Networks for Nuclear Forensic Image Morphology Using Image Splitting Techniques

open access: yesJournal of Chemometrics, Volume 40, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Manual morphological analysis of actinide particles from scanning electron microscope (SEM) imagery is a critical component of nuclear forensics but is prone to significant inter‐analyst variability. To address this challenge, this work develops and evaluates an automated classification method using deep learning.

The Impact of Carbon Pricing Mechanisms on Regional Power Sector Emissions: Evidence From Guangdong, China

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 3, Page 1113-1130, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates low‐carbon transition pathways and carbon neutrality planning in Guangdong Province, China's largest energy consumer. Using integrated regression analysis, electricity demand is projected to increase from 850 TWh in 2023 to 1580 TWh by 2060.

Eocene Tectonic Change in the South Pacific Caused Exhumation of the Transantarctic Mountains in Northern Victoria Land, Antarctica

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 69, Issue 1, March 2026.
Apatite fission‐track and (U‐Th)/He data indicate rapid exhumation of northern Victoria Land at 40–30 Ma, correlating with opening of Adare Trough at 43–28 Ma. Exhumation was greatest close to the Ross Sea, consistent with other regions of the Transantarctic Mountains.

Healing Beams: Radiation and Radiotherapy in Novels, Poems, Music, Film, Painting

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, Volume 73, Issue 1, Page 19-31, March 2026.
Radiation and radiotherapy are perceived by patients and the general public as mysterious, dangerous and healing. The image of radiation and radiotherapy can be analysed by studying novels, poems, music, film and painting. Our paper reviews how radiation and radiotherapy are perceived by patients, the general public, as reflected in various art genres.

Practical Applications of Secondary/Extractive Electrospray Ionization (SESI): A Versatile Tool for Real‐Time Chemical Analysis

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, Volume 45, Issue 2, Page 392-428, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT In the 1980s, researchers discovered the remarkable ability of electrospray plumes to effectively ionize gas‐phase molecules via secondary ionization. Around 20 years later—coinciding with the ambient mass spectrometry revolution—secondary electrospray ionization (SESI) and extractive electrospray ionization (EESI) coupled to mass spectrometry

Thermodynamic and Thermophysical Properties of Early Lanthanide Fluorides: LaF3, CeF3, PrF3, NdF3, SmF3, EuF3, and GdF3

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 9, 5 March 2026.
ABSTRACT Thermodynamic and thermo‐physical properties of fission products play a crucial role in the safe operation of a nuclear reactor. Since, in molten salt rectors (MSRs), lanthanide fluorides will be important fission products, isobaric molar heat capacities (cp) of trifluorides of the light lanthanides (LaF3, CeF3, PrF3, NdF3, SmF3, EuF3, and ...
