Aquifer Microbial Communities Differentially Display Metabolisms Capable of Secondary Effects on Uranium Speciation Across a Former Metal Processing Site

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 9, September 2026.
We performed microbial membership and metabolism measurements across a uranium‐contaminated site's surface and ground waters, then performed analyses relating these metrics to geochemistry at the site. Findings showed variations in the membership, yet mainly similar functional capabilities.

Automated particle analysis of D.B. Cooper's tie

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 71, Issue 5, Page 2439-2447, September 2026.
Abstract Automated particle analysis (APA) using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy‐dispersive x‐ray spectrometry (EDS) is a well‐known method in forensics, especially as it is applied to gunshot residue analysis. Here we describe the analysis of particles lifted from D.B. Cooper's tie, which was left on the hijacked plane in 1971.

Genomic Insights Into the Multimetal Resilience and Biofilm‐Templated Nanorod Biosynthesis of Stenotrophomonas bentonitica BII‐R7: Bioremediation and Green Nanotechnology Implications

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 9, September 2026.
Biofilm extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in Stenotrophomonas bentonitica BII‐R7 direct the formation of crystalline trigonal selenium nanorods. Comparative genomics identifies a unique genetic toolkit underpinning EPS composition and metal resilience, positioning this strain as a platform for bioremediation and green nanomaterial synthesis ...

Between Hedging and Bandwagoning: E3 and Iran's Nuclear Program From the JCPOA to the 2026 “Ramadan War”

open access: yesGlobal Policy, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 658-669, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This article examines the evolution of the European Troika's narratives on Iran's nuclear program, from the aftermath of the JCPOA to the 2026 “Ramadan War.” Drawing on an analysis of 55 official statements by E3 leaders and diplomats, the study traces how the E3 shifted between a posture of normative hedging and one of bandwagoning.

Beyond Dualism: EU Policy Toward Central Asia Through Decarbonization, Problem Linkage, and Civil Society Engagement

open access: yesGlobal Policy, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 723-733, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Despite the large reappraisal of the EU's security and economic interests in Central Asia, its foreign policy impact has remained weak. This article develops a constructivist, multi‐level framework to examine how European and Chinese approaches to decarbonization are translated into policy in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
