Effect of glazing and polishing on opalescence and fluorescence of dental ceramics
Abstract Objective Tooth enamel has opalescence and fluorescence, which should be mimicked by esthetic dental restorations. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of glazing and polishing on the opalescence and fluorescence of dental ceramics. Materials and Methods Twenty‐four discs were fabricated of feldspathic, IPS e.max, zirconia, and

Novel critical behavior of magnetization in URhSi:Similarities to uranium ferromagnetic superconductors UGe$_2$ and URhGe [PDF]
We study the critical behavior of dc magnetization in the uranium ferromagnet URhSi around the paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition at T_C~ 10 K with a modified Arrott plot, a Kouvel-Fisher plot, the critical isotherm analysis and the scaling analysis. URhSi is isostructural to uranium ferromagnetic superconductors URhGe and UCoGe.

A case for polar uranium octupoles in cubic U2N3 [PDF]
Uranium ions in sesquinitride alpha-U2N3 occupy independent acentric and centrosymmetric sites according to conventional x-ray diffraction patterns [R. Tro\'c, J. Solid State Chem. 13, 14 (1975)]. We submit that polar uranium multipoles in acentric sites are revealed in resonant x-ray diffraction data recently published by Lawrence Bright et al. [Phys.

Theoretical Modelling of High-Resolution X-Ray Absorption Spectra at Uranium M4 Edge [PDF]
We investigate the origin of satellite features that appear in the high-resolution x-ray absorption spectra measured at the uranium M 4 edge in compounds where the uranium atoms are in the U 6+ oxidation state. We employ a material-specific Anderson impurity model derived from the electronic structure obtained by the density-functional theory.

The chemical state of complex uranium oxides [PDF]
We report here the first direct observation of U(V) in uranium binary oxides and analyze the gradual conversion of the U oxidation state in the mixed uranium systems. Our finding clarifies previous contradicting results and provides important input for the geological disposal of spent fuel, recycling applications and chemistry of uranium species.

Uranium Critical Point Location Problem [PDF]
Significant uncertainty of our present knowledge for uranium critical point parameters is under consideration. Present paper is devoted to comparative analysis of possible resolutions for the problem of uranium critical point location, as well as to discussion of plausible scheme of decisive experiment, which could resolve existing uncertainty.

Computational Study of Very High Spin Actinyl Peroxide Matryoshka Nanoclusters
Density functional theory calculations are used to study the geometric and electronic structures of very high spin actinyl peroxide “Matryoshka” nanoclusters, with emphasis on understanding the stability of the highest spin states. Abstract Generalised gradient approximation and hybrid density functional theory is used to study the geometries ...
