A Personal Perspective on Metalloprotein Structure and the Future of Macromolecular X‐Ray Crystallography

open access: yesJournal of the Chinese Chemical Society, EarlyView.
While X‐ray crystallography has been the primary method for determining the structures of metalloproteins, cryoEM has taken over this role, illustrated by [4Fe4S]‐cluster containing proteins deposited in the Protein Data Bank. What will be the role for X‐ray crystallography as cryoEM and machine learning methods dominate the initial structural analysis?

DNA nano-pocket for ultra-selective uranyl extraction from seawater

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
The extraction of metals from seawater is an area of great potential; especially for the extraction of uranium. Here, the authors report on the synthesis of a DNA based uranium adsorbent with high selectivity and demonstrate the potential for the DNA ...

Extraction of Hexavalent Uranium by Trilaurylamine Nitrate

open access: yes, 1964
The effects of amine, uranium, and hydrogen ion concentrations on the extraction of U (VI) from acidic nitrate solutions by tri-n-dodecylamine nitrate in toluene were studied at constant nitrate concentration.

Late Quaternary climatic variability in the Eastern Mediterranean recorded in Hermes Cave, Corinth Rift, Greece

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Greek peninsula lies at the intersection of major atmospheric circulation systems, making it a key location for reconstructing past climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean. In this study, we present a new high‐resolution multi‐proxy speleothem record from Hermes Cave, located on the shoulder of the Corinth Rift in southern Greece.

Rate phenomena in uranium extraction by amines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Kinetics studies and other rate measurements are reviewed in the amine extraction of uranium and of some other related and associated metal ions. Equilibration is relatively fast in the uranium sulfate systems most important to uranium hydrometallurgy ...

The Behavior of Uranium in the Extraction with Benzyldodecylamine

open access: yesNippon kagaku zassi, 1961

Marine Isotope Stage 4 glaciation in northern England, UK: Evidence from Victoria Cave, North Yorkshire

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Victoria Cave, north Yorkshire, England, contains a long sequence of Pleistocene clastic sediments and calcite flowstones. Earlier work, using U–Th dating, established that the flowstone units formed in interglacial stages corresponding to Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 13, 11, 9, 7 and 5.

The Need for Fundamental Photovoltaics Research to Ensure Energy Security

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
The center of this graphic focuses on the core of this paper—that fundamental research is central to the continued development of the photovoltaic (PV) industry. To the left, we have depictions of what is being studied—PV materials, PV cell structures, and PV module structures.
