The steam oxidation rates of U-metal foil and bar stock have been measured thermogravimetrically between 473 and 823 K. Both materials exhibited Arrhenius-type behaviour in their steam oxidation rates below 573–623 K, with activation energies of 46.9 ± 3.3 kJ mol−1 for U foil below 623 K and 58.0 ± 3.8 kJ mol−1 for U bar stock below 573 K.

Results of a study of the cleavage of uranium dioxide crystals are presented. Previously a synthesized uranium dioxide crystal was found to have no cleavage. Here it was proven that uranium dioxide was cleaved both mechanicallyand by self-cleavage by controlled oxidation. A Laue x-ray back reflection study revealed cleavage in the {1 1 1} planes.

Tandem Mass Spectrometry of Uranium and Uranium Oxides in Airborne Particulates
Analytical Chemistry, 1998A method for detection of uranium in airborne microparticles in real time has been developed. Positive identification of uranium is achieved by isolating UO(2+) ions and following their reaction with residual oxygen molecules to yield UO(2)(+).

Oxidation states of uranium in depleted uranium particles from Kuwait
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2005The oxidation states of uranium in depleted uranium (DU) particles were determined by synchrotron radiation based mu-XANES, applied to individual particles isolated from selected samples collected at different sites in Kuwait. Based on scanning electron microscopy with X-ray microanalysis prior to mu-XANES, DU particles ranging from submicrons to ...

Thorium Oxide and Uranium Oxide Cleavage
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1959Cleavages of synthetic thorium oxide and uranium oxide crystals were measured on a two-circle optical goniometer in relation to the crystallographic axes as determined by x-ray diffraction. The cleavages of the thorium oxide were found to be good. The uranium oxide subjected to similar investigation was found to have no cleavage. (J.E.D.)

Preparation of Polydopamine-Modified Graphene Oxide/Chitosan Aerogel for Uranium(VI) Adsorption
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2018The relatively low density of functional groups of graphene oxide (GO) and the difficulty to completely recover after adsorption limit its application in uranium (U(VI)) removal from aqueous solution. Inspired by a special chemical property, polydopamine
