Externalities Imposed on Residential Properties in Highly Urbanized Areas

open access: yes, 2008
In highly industrialized areas open spaces such as farmland and nature are under pressure since urban areas are expanding at their expense. Because of the high opportunity costs of development in urban areas, a high price has to be paid for the ...

Autonomous X‐Ray Fluorescence Mapping for Nanoscale Chemical Speciation of Fine Particulate Matter

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
We present X‐AutoMap, an autonomous X‐ray fluorescence mapping framework that integrates real‐time analysis with rule‐based computer vision to selectively target chemically relevant regions. By avoiding background‐dominated areas, the method reduces acquisition time by fourfold while enabling accurate particle‐level speciation.

Open Space Purchases, House Prices, and the Tax Base

open access: yes
This paper examines the effect of public acquisitions of open space on house prices and the municipal tax base. While a series of studies show that open space acquisitions raise values of nearby properties, no research to date appears to focus upon the ...

Lidar‐Based Object Tracking of Traffic Participants with Sensor Nodes in Existing Urban Infrastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This paper presents a lidar‐based sensor node design and a rule‐based state observer for edge‐based traffic participant tracking. Unlike other state‐of‐the‐art methods, this state observer enables real‐time, CPU‐only edge processing without relying on machine learning approaches.

Tax Increment Financing for Optimal Open Space Preservation: an Economic Inquiry

open access: yes
The public has increasingly demonstrated a strong support for open space preservation. Questions left to local policy-makers are how local governments can finance preservation of open space in a politically desirable way, whether there exists an optimal ...

Transience and durability in Japanese urban space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The thesis addresses the research question “What is transient and what endures within Japanese urban space” by taking the material constructed form of one Japanese city as a primary text and object of analysis.

Talk to Your Data: An Agentic Artificial Intelligence‐Driven Decision‐Support Framework for Prosumer Energy Optimization and Recommendations

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An agentic AI‐driven decision‐support framework for prosumers is proposed, integrating PV generation, load profiling, and multihorizon optimization within a four‐agent architecture. The approach significantly reduces grid dependence, enhances self‐sufficiency and prevents system oversizing.

Can urban forests alleviate eye strain? Evidence from eye-tracking metrics

open access: yesTrees, Forests and People
With the surge in digital screen use, eye strain has become a growing public health concern. While urban forests are known to support psychological and physiological restoration, their capacity to alleviate eye strain remains underexplored.

Enhanced Monocular Depth Estimation Using ResNet Backbone and Multiscale Feature Decoding for Precise Object Distance Measurement

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A lightweight monocular perception framework generates high‐fidelity depth maps and integrates YOLOv8 detection to estimate object‐wise distances from a single RGB image. Evaluated on KITTI and the proposed D‐Far250 dataset, the system demonstrates accurate long‐range perception up to 250 m while maintaining real‐time performance, enabling scalable ...
