Accounting for Substitution: Improving Estimates of GHG Reductions From Cattle‐Based Product Demand Shifts

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Estimates of reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from lower demand for cattle‐based products must account for substitution effects. This study collected data through two surveys—one on ground beef and another on dairy milk—to evaluate substitution effects and potential GHG reductions.

Influence of rock heterogeneity on the correlation between uniaxial compressive strength and Brazilian tensile strength

open access: yesScientific Reports
To offer guidance for using Brazilian tensile strength (BTS) to estimate UCS of heterogeneous rocks, this study uses sandstone (fine or coarse grain) and gneiss (0°, 45°, 90° inclined anisotropy) to investigate the influence of grain size or anisotropy ...

A Taste for Trips out of Town: Urban Sprawl and Access to Open Space [PDF]

open access: yes
Residential development at the urban fringe raises the cost of trips to open space. We derive a simple expression for the tax that internalizes this effect of sprawl in a monocentric city andapply it using survey data on recreational activity.

Critical energy distribution and fracture characteristics of heterogeneous rock under splitting condition

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
To explore the macroscopic physical and mechanical characteristics of the tensile fracturing of heterogeneous rocks under loading, uniaxial splitting tests were designed and carried out on rock samples.

Hemp Cultivation and Crop Diversification: Implications for Ecosystem Services in Kentucky

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the ecosystem benefits of expanding hemp cultivation by assessing its impact on crop diversity. Using scenario‐based simulations and fixed‐effect panel regressions with county‐level data in Kentucky, we find that increased hemp acreage tends to enhance crop diversity, improving water quality and bird diversity.
