Cell‐in‐Bead‐in‐Droplet Platform for pH‐Based Microfluidic Screening of Ureolytic Bacteria
Efficient high‐throughput microbial screening in droplet microfluidics is often challenged by chemical crosstalk between droplets. This is particularly difficult in pH‐changing biological processes, for which more effective biochemical assays are needed.

Micromethods for determination of ammonia, urea, total nitrogen, uric acid, creatinine (and creatine), and allantoin [PDF]
The success with which Krebs and Henseleit (1) employed Warburg’s method of surviving tissue slices in the problem of the formation of urea in the liver encouraged its use for a direct attack on other problems of nitrogen metabolism in ...

Local detection of enzymatic ion generation with polycrystalline silicon interdigitated electrodes and its application to biosensing [PDF]
Chips containing polycrystalline silicon interdigitated electrodes are modified with the enzyme urease. The sensors are able to detect changes in the resitivity of the solution near their surface, where the enzymatic reaction generates charged species ...

Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae does not require urease activity to produce acute swine pleuropneumonia [PDF]
The role in virulence of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae urease activity was investigated. A urease-negative mutant was isolated following transposon mutagenesis with a mini-Tn10 derivative. Both the parent strain and the urease-negative mutant exhibited

Molecular structure and nickel‐binding capacity of Proteus mirabilis UreE
This study presents a 2.0 Å resolution crystal structure and determined the nickel‐binding capacity of the P. mirabilis nickel chaperone UreE. UreE is essential for the delivery of nickel to the metalloenzyme urease, which is key for the ability of P. mirabilis to cause urinary‐tract infections.UreE is a nickel chaperone that is required for the safe ...
