Catheter contact induced compressive and shear stress causing umbrella cell disruption, reduced barrier function, inflammation and increased cell adhesion to the catheter surface.

Male mammal copulatory structures such as the baculum (penile bone) are ideal for studying these processes because of their complexity and high interspecific variability.
