Nongonococcal urethritis is a frequent genital infection, in most cases caused by Chlamydia trachomatis or Ureaplasma urealyticum. Diagnosis requires demonstration of urethritis and exclusion of Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection. Preferred treatment is seven days of tetracycline hydrochloride or doxycycline, to both the patient and partners.
