Urethral adenocarcinoma mimicking urethral caruncle
International Urogynecology Journal, 2005Urethral caruncles are considered as benign tumors. They need to be treated surgically; specimens should carefully be evaluated for the presence of any malignancy. We are presenting a 57-year-old female patient with a urethral lesion that looks like caruncle, but histopathologic examination of the excised lesion was reported as urethral adenocarcinoma.

One in a young married female who had isolated urethral involvement presenting as urethral caruncle and the second in a young male with urethral stricture complicated by fistulae and abscess in association with renal tuberculosis.

Nongonococcal urethritis is a frequent genital infection, in most cases caused by Chlamydia trachomatis or Ureaplasma urealyticum. Diagnosis requires demonstration of urethritis and exclusion of Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection. Preferred treatment is seven days of tetracycline hydrochloride or doxycycline, to both the patient and partners.
