The Connected Catheter for management of Chronic Urinary Retention (CUR) in an adult male with Neurogenic Bladder – Case study

open access: yesUrology Case Reports, 2019
Millions of adults suffer from chronic urinary retention or disorders that require catheterization for bladder management. The current standard of care for these patients consists of three different methods of catheterization, all of which present ...

Evolutionary fine-tuning of conformational ensembles in FimH during host-pathogen interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Positive selection in the two-domain type 1 pilus adhesin FimH enhances Escherichia coli fitness in urinary tract infection (UTI). We report a comprehensive atomic-level view of FimH in two-state conformational ensembles in solution, composed of one low ...

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Straightforward Preparation of Polyurethane‐Based Biomaterials with Dual Antibacterial and Anti‐Adhesive Properties for Long‐Lasting Catheter Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study presents the elaboration of antibacterial, antiadhesive, and antibiofilm polyurethane by a straightforward process based on the co‐extrusion of 2 wt.% of both antibacterial and antiadhesive copolymer. The material proves to be active even after pre‐exposition to biological media and prevents E. coli biofilm formation without toxicity.

Current Trends in the Management of Difficult Urinary Catheterizations

open access: yesWestern Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2012
Routine urinary catheter placement may cause trauma and poses a risk of infection. Male catheterization, in particular, can be difficult, especially in patients with enlarged prostate glands or other potentially obstructive conditions in the lower ...

Vm–MSI: a Vancomycin–Antimicrobial Peptide Conjugate Combating Resistant Bacteria and Broadening the Antimicrobial Spectrum

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A series of vancomycin‐antimicrobial peptide conjugates is synthesized and evaluated to identify the optimal combination. Vm‐MSI, selected from multiple candidates, exhibited potent activity against vancomycin‐resistant and Gram‐negative bacteria by disrupting membranes and inducing oxidative stress, thereby expanding vancomycin's antibacterial ...
