The Origins of Ploem's Filter Cube: A Pandora's Box

Abstract Ploem's filter cube, central to modern epifluorescence microscopy, integrates three matched optical components: an excitation filter, an emission filter, and a dichroic mirror. Together, these elements enable the separation of excitation and emission light paths, producing high‐contrast fluorescence images.

Background & Objective: No nutrient deficiency is as bad as Iodine deficiency which attributed to a broad spectrum of disorders like goiter, abortion, hypothyroidism, etc. Screening for hypothyroidism must be done before or just after pregnancy.

Urinary Radio-iodine Excretion in the Malnourished Infant [PDF]

A study of urinary I131 excretion and its relation to basal oxygen uptake was conducted in Jamaican infants suffering from, and recovering from, severe protein malnutrition. Because of the possible radiation hazard of I131 in young children, a dosage of 0.01C kg was used. The calculated mean radiation dose to the gland was of the order of 0.25 rad. The

Across all population and sociodemographic groups in the Philippines, diets lacked diversity and intakes of fruit and vegetables were low. Under‐ and overnutrition are persisting challenges.
