Effects of SGLT‐2 Inhibitors on Plasma Concentrations and Renal Clearance of the Risk Marker Trimethylamine‐N‐Oxide in Patients With Type‐2 Diabetes

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 6, November 2026.
Treatment with empagliflozin or dapagliflozin was associated with a modest increase in plasma concentration of TMAO in Type 2 diabetes patients. These findings suggest a possible class effect of SGLT‐2 inhibitors. Whether this effect impacts the overall clinical benefits of SGLT‐2 inhibitors needs to be subject to further investigation.

Multiple Sclerosis and Viruses: « Liaisons Dangereuses »

open access: yesReviews in Medical Virology, Volume 36, Issue 6, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex, multifactorial neurodegenerative disease with an aetiology that is still partially elusive. Several risk factors are associated with MS development including genetic predisposition and various environmental stressors; however, recently, viral infections have gained significant attention as a crucial ...

Protective Effects of Lactobacillus‐Derived Probiotics and Postbiotics on Renal and Reproductive Function in Escherichia coli–Infected Rats

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
A Lactobacillus‐derived probiotic and postbiotic mixture alleviates E. coli–induced renal and reproductive dysfunction by modulating oxidative stress, inflammatory responses, and apoptosis, leading to improved tissue integrity and sperm quality. ABSTRACT Background Escherichia coli infections of the genitourinary tract are a major cause of renal and ...

Lachnospiraceae in the Food–Gut Axis: A Critical Review of Dietary Modulation, Immune Regulation, and Translational Barriers

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 6, November 2026.
ABSTRACT The interplay between diet, gut microbiota, and host immunity is central to food science. The Lachnospiraceae family ferments dietary fibers to produce short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), notably butyrate and propionate, with immunomodulatory potential. This critical review distinguishes established findings from hypotheses.

Oral Butyrate Reduces Progression of Kidney Damage in an L‐NAME‐Induced Diabetic Kidney Disease Mouse Model

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 11, Page 10278-10291, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is one of the main causes of kidney failure worldwide. Interestingly, patients affected by DKD are characterised by a low abundance of gut bacteria producing short fatty acids including butyrate, which is suggested to play a role in the decline of renal function.

Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection Biomarkers for High‐Risk Individuals: Insights From the PRECEDE Consortium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 8, Page 1873-1883, 15 October 2026.
ABSTRACT Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains one of the deadliest cancers due to its asymptomatic progression, late‐stage diagnosis, and treatment resistance. Efforts in early detection have centered on identifying imaging features and liquid biopsy biomarkers capable of detecting PDAC and its high‐grade precursors before clinical symptoms ...
