Residual Urinary Volume and Urinary Tract Infection—When are They Linked?

Journal of Urology, 2008
Large post-void residual urinary volume may be related to the development of urinary tract infection. However, the maximum post-void residual volume that predisposes patients to a higher risk of urinary tract infection is not known. In this prospective study we determined the cutoff value for post-void residual volume that places adult men at risk for ...

Urinary tract cancer screening through analysis of urinary red blood cell volume distribution

International Journal of Urology, 2000
Abstract Background : Hematuria is differentiated between glomerular and urinary tract origins on the basis of urinary red cell morphology. We used this distinction in a program of mass screening for urinary tract cancer to achieve cost‐effective and safe hematuria screening.

Portable ultrasound determination of urinary residual volume

International Urogynecology Journal, 1997
A portable ultrasound to determine bladder volume, the BladderScan 2500, was compared to transurethral catheterization in 72 women. Most measurements were made after voiding. Volumes measured by catheterization were 17 ml greater than those measured by ultrasound, which was not clinically significant.
