An Energy Autonomous Microneedle Array‐Based Sensing System for Continuous Biomarker Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents an innovative self‐powered wearable biosensor system for real‐time monitoring of multiple biomarkers in interstitial fluid. The device integrates stainless steel‐based minimally invasive microneedles with ion‐selective membranes, enabling simultaneous Na+, K+, Ca2+, pH, and glucose detection.

Urine wheel (UN-)folded – a modern version of the urine wheel

open access: yes, 2018
In 1492 Johannes de Ketham published the urine wheel which was thought to reveal imbalances of the four humours according to the color of the urine. The urine wheel presented in this article is a foldable modern version linking the colors of urine to ...

Thermostable Bioluminescent Intercalating Dyes for Real‐Time, Integrated Nucleic Acid Amplification and Detection

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We present a bioluminescent diagnostic platform that integrates DNA amplification and detection in a single step. The engineering of thermostable luciferase‐intercalating dye conjugates and controlled release of caged luciferin substrates enable real‐time, detection of attomolar concentrations of viral DNA within 30 min.

Urine color, osmolality and specific electrical conductance are not accurate measures of hydration status during postexercise rehydration.

open access: yes, 1999
BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to determine whether urine color, osmolality and specific electrical conductance (SEC) provide an accurate index of hydration status and of fluid requirements during the recovery phase after an acute exercise-induced ...

Dielectric Elastomer Actuators as Safe and Effective Tools for Mechanostimulation of Human Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Replicating physiological forces is crucial for realistic cell models. Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) offer a soft alternative, though their high voltages raised toxicity concerns. We demonstrate that DEA stimulation causes no cell damage, cell death or cell‐cycle disruption, while activating mechanosensitive responses.
