Measurement of Urine Relative Density Using Refractometer and Reagent Strips

cclm, 1998
Abstract The relative density of urine is the ratio of its density to that of water and depends on both the number and weight of solute particles in the sample, while osmolality depends only on the number of solute particles. Water metabolism is regulated by the interaction of the renal medullary countercurrent system with the ...

Characteristics of a New Urine, Serum, and Saliva Alcohol Reagent Strip

Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 1992
We have tested an ethanol reagent strip developed at the Addiction Research Foundation of Ontario. Alcohol dehydrogenase and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, in the presence of pyrazole, react with ethanol to yield acetaldehyde plus reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.

Assessment of urine specific gravity by reagent strip test in newborn infants

Pediatric Nephrology, 1993
Specific gravity was measured with a strip test (N-Labstix SG, Ames Division, Miles, Puteaux, France) in 98 urine specimens obtained from 57 newborn infants; osmolality was measured with an osmometer. The strip test did not accurately predict urine osmolalities; a very weak correlation was found between the specific gravity and the osmolality (r2 = 0 ...

Evaluation of a Colorimetric Reagent Strip Assay for Urine Specific Gravity

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1983
N-Multistix SG provides a convenient colorimetric assay for the determination of the specific gravity (sp. gr.) of freshly voided urine. When compared with results obtained by standard hydrometry, the colorimetric assay sp. gr. was observed to decrease by as much as 0.010 units as urine pH increased from 5 to 7.

Solid-Phase Reagent Strip for Plasma and Urine Creatinine Measurements

Laboratory Medicine, 1986
A solid-phase reagent strip was evaluated for the measurement of creatinine concentrations in the plasma and urine of patients with various degrees of renal dysfunction. Results of these determinations, performed on the Seralyzer solid-phase chemistry system, were compared with results obtained using an AutoAnalyzer. The study involved 131 measurements

Utility of urine reagent strip in screening women with incontinence for urinary tract infection

International Urogynecology Journal, 2004
The aim of this study was to determine the utility of urine reagent strips in screening women with urinary incontinence for urinary tract infections. Subjects were all women presenting with urinary incontinence. A urine specimen was screened for urinary tract infection with a urine reagent strip and urine culture.

Diagnostic accuracy of a urine reagent strip to identify bacterial peritonitis in dogs with ascites

The Veterinary Journal, 2014
The leukocyte esterase test pad on a urine dipstick has been used as a preliminary test for bacterial peritonitis in humans but has not previously been evaluated in dogs. Here, free abdominal fluid from 60 dogs was tested on the leukocyte esterase test pad and results were compared with culture and microscopic analysis. Depending on the 'gold standard'

Microstix-A reagent strip for urine culture.

The New Zealand medical journal, 1976
Microstix is a simple and convenient reagent strip for obtaining a semi-quantitative bacterial count on urine specimens. This method correctly predicted over 10(5) gram-negative organisms per ml in 84 percent of samples and over 10(5) gram-positive organisms per ml in 72 percent. Urine specimens containing 10(4) per ml or more of any organism should be

CLINICAL USE OF PHENISTIX REAGENT STRIP METHOD OF TESTING URINE SAMPLES

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1959
In 1934 Folling described phenylpyruvic oligophrenia and the characteristic color reaction of the urine with ferric chloride. 1 Since then the disease has been related to a hereditary deficiency of the enzyme which converts phenylalanine to tyrosine, and lately it has been shown that the earlier in life a diet low in phenylalanine is instituted, the ...

Indicated vs. routine prenatal urine chemical reagent strip testing.

The Journal of reproductive medicine, 2007
To determine if urinary tract infection, high blood pressure and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are underdiagnosed when prenatal urine testing is done on a clinically indicated vs. routine basis.Prenatal and delivery records of 2,981 subjects were reviewed in a predominantly Hispanic and medically underserved population.
