A reagent strip for measuring the specific gravity of urine.

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1982
Abstract A solid-phase reagent for determination of urinary specific gravity (relative density) is described. This reagent strip, similar to others in the "N-Multistix" series (Ames), contains a polyacid whose acidity is sensitive to the ionic concentration in the urine in which it is immersed.

Immobilization of Proteinase K for urine pretreatment to improve diagnostic accuracy of active tuberculosis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
The World Health Organization (WHO) calls for the development of a rapid, biomarker-based, non-sputum test capable of detecting all forms of tuberculosis (TB) at the point-of-care to enable immediate treatment initiation.

Performance of a real-time PCR approach for diagnosing Schistosoma haematobium infections of different intensity in urine samples from Zanzibar

open access: yesInfectious Diseases of Poverty, 2020
Background Efforts to control and eliminate schistosomiasis have accelerated over the past decade. As parasite burden, associated morbidity and egg excretion decrease, diagnosis with standard parasitological methods becomes harder.

Evaluation of circulating cathodic antigen (CCA) urine-tests for diagnosis of Schistosoma mansoni infection in Cameroon. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2012
BackgroundThe Kato-Katz is the most common diagnostic method for Schistosoma mansoni infection. However, the day-to-day variability in host egg-excretion and its low detection sensitivity are major limits for its use in low transmission zones and after ...

Evaluation of a smartphone-based colorimetric method for urinalysis dipstick readings in cats

open access: yesJournal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, 2023
Objectives The aim of the study was to compare the diagnostic performances of a smartphone-based colorimetric method (SBCM) for urinalysis with a semi-automated point-of-care (POC) analyser using standardised solutions and cat urine.

Rapid diagnosis of meningitis using reagent strips [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Objectives: Identification of causative agent with estimation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) glucose, protein, cells is necessary for accurate diagnosis of meningitis. Unfortunately, even these facilities are not available in many areas.

Evaluation of urine dipstick and cystoscopy in bovine enzootic haematuria

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2014
Enzootic bovine haematuria is mainly caused by the chronic ingestion of bracken fern and is still considered an important cause of economic losses in beef herds, particularly in large metropolitan areas of Brazil that are not suitable for agriculture ...

The Natural Product Corramycin Acts as a DNA Gyrase Poison and Overcomes Fluoroquinolone Resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Corramycin, a myxobacterial natural product antibiotic, exhibits potent bactericidal activity against multidrug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The compound hijacks bacterial transporters such as BacA and OppABCD to enter the cell and inhibits DNA synthesis through a previously unrecognized mode of DNA gyrase poisoning, locking the enzyme in an ...

Validity and interobserver agreement of reagent strips for measurement of glucosuria

open access: yes, 2011
Background. Measurement of glucosuria by means of a visually readable reagent test strip is frequently used in a wide variety of clinical settings. The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of this semi-quantitative measurement ...

USP30‐Mediated Deubiquitination of PEX5 Suppresses Pexophagy to Drive Tubular Injury in Diabetic Kidney Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
USP30 accumulation in diabetic renal tubular epithelial cells deubiquitinates PEX5, suppresses pexophagy, and drives dysfunctional peroxisome accumulation and tubular injury. USP30 depletion restores PEX5 ubiquitination and pexophagy, improves peroxisomal function, and alleviates tubular damage, highlighting USP30 as a therapeutic target in diabetic ...
