Involving the superficial skin layers, urticaria may be intensely pmritic, with serpiginous raised edges and blanched centers. Angioedema involves the deeper skin layers and is usually not pmritic. Either may be associated with incapacitating gastrointestinal colic, life-threatening upper respiratory obstruction, or hypotension.
