Stratigraphy and mineralogy of the manganese ores of Urucum, Mato Grosso, Brazil
Geologische Rundschau: Zeitschrift Fur Allgemeine Geologie, 1981Preliminar results of geological mapping and microscopic studies are presented. The mineral deposits of Urucum are clearly different from the rest of the banded iron-formations in Brazil: Urucum is essentially younger, and probably Late Proterozoic, the sequence is unmetamorphic. Two main types of manganese ore exist in Urucum, namely:

Prereduction of Manganese Briquettes Produced with Tailing Dam Materials from Urucum/Brazil
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2021In Brazil, the waste disposal in tailing dams has been a significant problem. During the production of ferroalloy raw materials up to 50 % of the material extracted from the mines is placed in tailing dams due to its low particle size. The aim of this work is to evaluate the behaviour of briquettes made with tailing dam material from Urucum/Brazil in ...

The Fe Mn ore deposits of Urucum, Brazil: An oxygen isotope study
Chemical Geology: Isotope Geoscience section, 1987Abstract The Fe Mn ore deposits of Urucum are located close to the Brasilian-Bolivian border. They appear to be considerably younger (Late Proterozoic) than most other banded iron ore formations. The Mn ores occur in three or four well-defined beds.

Black elbaite from Corrego do Urucum, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Mineralogical Magazine, 1978SummaryBlack tourmaline from Corrego do Urucum, Brazil, is an elbaite coloured by iron and manganese with blue, green, and pink regions. Polarized spectra show the absorption bands expected in elbaite (Fe-caused blue and green, and pink, which is probably caused by Mn). The colour distribution in the transverse sections does not conform to the symmetry
