Synthesis of Urushiol Derivatives by the Fries Rearrangement

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Chemistry, 1985
The photo- and thermal-induced Fries rearrangement reactions of some unsaturated aliphatic esters of benzene-1,2-diol (catechol) have been studied. Photorearrangement and thermal rearrangement favoured products correspond to ortho and para migration respectively, but the thermal rearrangement may be accompanied by indanones, chromanones and other ...

Characterization of Poison Oak Urushiol

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1975
Procedures are described that were used in the isolation and characterization of urushiol components reported to be the allergenic constituents of poison oak, Toxicodendron diversilobum. Characterization of these components by spectral techniques indicated they are unsaturated congeners of 3-heptadecylcatechol, possessing one, two, or three double ...

Studies of Japanese lacquer: Urushiol dimerization by the coupling reaction between urushiol quinone and a triolefinic component of urushiol

Journal of Polymer Science Part A-1: Polymer Chemistry, 1969
AbstractPreviously, the formation of urushiol quinone from urushiol was demonstrated in the laccase‐catalyzed oxidation process of the sap of the Japanese lacquer tree (Rhus vernicifera D.C.) or of lacquer formed from it. This paper presents the results of the investigation on the participation of urushiol quinone in the oxidative polymerization and ...

Urushiols of poisonous anacardiaceae

Phytochemistry, 1975
Abstract GC-MS has been used to analyze and characterize the mixture of bis -trimethylsilyl derivatives of 3- n -alk(en)ylcatechols (urushiol) obtained from certain poisonous members of the Anacardiaceae. Analyses revealed a variation in composition of urushiol obtained from the same species.

Regulation of the contact sensitivity response to urushiol with anti-urushiol monoclonal antibody ALG 991

Archives of Dermatological Research, 1999
The objective of the studies was to demonstrate that the contact sensitivity (CS) response to poison ivy/oak could be downregulated following treatment with a monoclonal antibody (mAb) reacting with the allergen urushiol. Conjugation of urushiol and its synthetic analogue 3-n-pentadecylcatechol (PDC) to N-acetylcysteine yielded hydrosoluble derivatives

Induction of persistent tolerance to urushiol in humans

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1981
Young nonimmune subjects were injected intramuscularly multiple times with small amounts of urushiol oil derived from poison oak. One week after the last injection this group and another group of age-matched controls were exposed to a sensitizing dose of the oil painted on the skin. All were challenged at 1 mo, then each year for 7 yr.

Spray-Assisted Nanocoating of the Biobased Material Urushiol

Langmuir, 2015
We have demonstrated the spray-assisted coating of the catechol derivative, urushiol. Spraying a mixture of urushiol and iron(II) acetate formed a uniform coating about 10 nm thick, as confirmed by AFM observations. XPS measurements revealed that various substrates, including polyolefins and thermosetting resins, were successfully coated with urushiol.

Enrichment and function of urushiol (poison ivy)-specific T lymphocytes in lesions of allergic contact dermatitis to urushiol.

The Journal of Immunology, 1990
Abstract The frequencies of urushiol (poison ivy)-specific T cells were determined in the lesional skin and peripheral blood of patients with allergic contact dermatitis to urushiol. Lesions of urushiol dermatitis were biopsied and the T cells retrieved.

Crosslinkable Polyphenols from Urushiol Analogues

Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics, 2001
Synthesis and curing behaviors of polyphenol from urushiol analogues have been examined. The analogues were synthesized by lipase-catalyzed esterification of 4-hydroxyphenethyl alcohol with unsaturated fatty acids, in which the primary hydroxy group was regioselectively acylated to give the phenol derivatives having the unsaturated group in the para ...
