Horizontal and Vertical Illuminance Correlations in a Case Study for Shaded South Facing Surfaces
Daylight utilization is a key factor in achieving visual and thermal comfort, and energy savings in integrated building design. However, lack of measured data related to this topic has become a major challenge with the increasing need for integrating ...

Minimum daylight autonomy: A new concept to link daylight dynamic metrics with daylight factors [PDF]
Daylight metrics act as a useful tool to quantify the potential of natural light in an architectural space as well as the energy savings promoted by a suitable design of windows, atriums, and skylights.

Analysis of grid of points influence on daylight metrics
The luminous performance of buildings can be evaluated using several tools, most of them based on illuminance. Although progress has been made in daylight metrics in recent decades, mainly due to developments in computer systems technology, they do not ...

This article demonstrates the benefits of complementing a daylight-lit environment with a spectrally tunable illumination system. The spectral components of daylight present in the room are measured by a low-cost miniature spectrophotometer and processed through a number of optimization algorithms, carefully trading color fidelity for energy efficiency.

Design Adjustments For Daylighting and Visual Comfort in a Classroom with Conventional Shadings
This paper evaluates how design adjustments applied to roller shades and louvres (namely the height of the shadings head and the angles of the louvre slats) can improve their annual and spatial effectiveness to provide autonomous daylight levels, reduce ...

Real-world validation of climate-based daylight metrics: mission impossible? [PDF]
One of the criticisms of metrics founded on climate-based daylight modelling (CBDM) is that they are unverifiable in practice. This criticism received some attention following the decision in 2013 by the Education Funding Agency to make CBDM and the ...
