Latin Hypercubes and Space-filling Designs [PDF]
This chapter discusses a general design approach to planning computer experiments, which seeks design points that fill a bounded design region as uniformly as possible. Such designs are broadly referred to as space-filling designs.

Incentive-Centered Design for User-Contributed Content [PDF]
We review incentive-centered design for user-contributed content (UCC) on the Internet. UCC systems, produced (in part) through voluntary contributions made by non-employees, face fundamental incentives problems.

The glacier ice worm Mesenchytraeus solifugus survives year‐round at 0 °C. Its ATP6 subunit, which forms a regulatory component of the proton pore in mitochondrial ATP synthase, has a carboxy‐terminal extension not found in any other organism examined to date. Here, we show that fusion of this extension to the homologous AtpB protein in E. coli results

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Design Spaces and How Software Designers Use Them: a sampler [PDF]
Discussions of software design often refer to using "design spaces" to describe the spectrum of available design alternatives. This supports design thinking in many ways: to capture domain knowledge, to support a wide variety of design activity, to analyze or predict properties of alternatives, to understand interactions and dependencies among design ...

Evaluating Mixed-Initiative Procedural Level Design Tools using a Triple-Blind Mixed-Method User Study [PDF]
Results from a triple-blind mixed-method user study into the effectiveness of mixed-initiative tools for the procedural generation of game levels are presented. A tool which generates levels using interactive evolutionary optimisation was designed for this study which (a) is focused on supporting the designer to explore the design space and (b) only ...

Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Augmented Reality Chemical Reaction with User-Centered Design
One of chemistry is the chemical element that is represented by the symbol on the periodic table. The low level of activity, interest, and the result of chemistry learning in school is caused by the students generally having difficulty in solving ...
