Where is the User in User-Centered Design?
2021If ISO [1] definitions are viewed through a “human” filter, the terms support only a system-side elimination. Is it more useful to develop solutions that enable people to achieve a goal, or to create well-being and positive experiences? In my thesis, I describe concrete examples from the ISO of how focus falls on the user.

In the previous chapter we analyzed the requirements, committed to a development strategy, and defined a simple roadmap. In this chapter we are going to talk about one of the most difficultstages of product development: its design.

User centered research and design at Motorola
CHI '00 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2000In this overview, we describe how user-centered research and design have been established within Motorola and how it is organized to support both short-term development programs and longer-term research. Motorola is a global company and has a distributed HCI community.

The state of user-centered design practice
IEEE Engineering Management Review, 2005User-Centered Design (UCD) is a multidisciplinary design approach based on the active involvement of users to improve the understanding of user and task requirements, and the iteration of design and evaluation. It is widely considered the key to product usefulness and usability---an effective approach to overcoming the limitations of traditional system-

USER–CENTERED DESIGN FOR PRODUCTIVE SYSTEMS
Information Systems Management, 1996The complexity of implementing client/server architectures often relegates the most important element in an effective system—the user—to the back burner. Usability engineering, or user–centered design, maximizes the likelihood that users will find an application solution useful and effective while also reducing development cycle, costs, and failure ...

User-centered design and fundamental need
Proceedings of the 5th Nordic conference on Human-computer interaction: building bridges, 2008This paper will discuss whether User-Centered Design (UCD) is capable and/or oriented towards satisfying users' fundamental needs. At face value, UCD is the advocate of the user in product development, but do its actual practices and values address what is fundamentally important for users?

User-Centered Design of a Teachable Robot
2012Robotic learning environments may benefit if combined with intelligent tutoring technologies, but it is unclear how best to integrate the two types of systems. We explore this integration using a tangible teachable agent paradigm, where students teach a robot about geometry concepts.
