Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

Designing Universal User Interfaces Through an Ontology-Based Method.

open access: yesRevista Tecnologia, 2009
In recenty ears, universal access has attracted considerable attention by the research communities, mainly from the perspective of system development. It comes from the fact that the design of user interfaces for all must cover design issues in multiple ...

A UI-DSPL Approach for the Development of Context-Adaptable User Interfaces

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Unlike adaptive interfaces which use sensors to adapt themselves, adaptable interfaces need the intervention of end users to adapt their different aspects according to user requirements.

MET variants with activating N‐lobe mutations identified in hereditary papillary renal cell carcinomas still require ligand stimulation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MET variants in the N‐lobe of the kinase domain, found in hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma, require ligand stimulation to promote cell transformation, in contrast to other RTK variants. This suggests that HGF expression in the microenvironment is important for tumor growth in such patients. Their sensitivity to MET inhibitors opens the way for

Clear, Concise and Effective UI: Opinion and Suggestions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
The most important aspect of any Software is the operability for the intended audience. This factor of operability is encompassed in the user interface, which serves as the only window to the features of the system. It is thus essential that the User Interface provided is robust, concise and lucid.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Is Conversational XAI All You Need? Human-AI Decision Making With a Conversational XAI Assistant [PDF]

open access: yes
Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) methods are being proposed to help interpret and understand how AI systems reach specific predictions. Inspired by prior work on conversational user interfaces, we argue that augmenting existing XAI methods with conversational user interfaces can increase user engagement and boost user understanding of the AI ...

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Perspectives on Bayesian Optimization for HCI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this position paper we discuss optimization in the HCI domain based on our experiences with Bayesian methods for modeling and optimization of audio systems, including challenges related to evaluating, designing, and optimizing such interfaces.
