Literature Review on UTCI Applications
2021This chapter presents a comprehensive literature review of peer-reviewed papers on the UTCI with special focus on its applications. A search in Scopus and Web of Science has been conducted in February 2021 yielding 320 and 304 documents, respectively, for the time frame from 2000 to March 2021.

Improving the operational forecasts of outdoor UTCI with post-processing
2023Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI ) is a thermal comfort index that describes how the human body experiences ambient conditions. It has units of temperature, and it takes into account the effect of air temperature, humidity, wind, radiation, and clothes.

Application of UTCI in China from tourism perspective
Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2016This study uses ERA-Interim reanalysis data and the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) to investigate the spatial pattern of thermal bioclimatic conditions in China. Our results show that the annual UTCI increases with decreasing latitude throughout most of China. Areas that experience “no thermal stress” are located southeast of the line formed by

Thermal sensation and climate: a comparison of UTCI and PET thresholds in different climates [PDF]
The influence of physiological acclimatization and psychological adaptation on thermal perception is well documented and has revealed the importance of thermal experience and expectation in the evaluation of environmental stimuli. Seasonal patterns of thermal perception have been studied, and calibrated thermal indices' scales have been proposed to ...

Analysis of UTCI in the Czech Republic: a comparison of two reanalyses
2023The universal thermal climate index (UTCI) is a widely used index evaluating stress caused by meteorological conditions on humans. The index combines the four meteorological elements: temperature, humidity, wind speed, and mean radiant temperature. The UTCI index can be gained from observed data, however, its calculation is also incorporated in several

UTCI forecast in Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service
2022With an increase in frequency and intensity of extreme events due to global warming, the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) is always looking to improve its algorithms and warning system for such events. Part of the current biometeorological forecast and the Meteoalarm warning system are forecasts of heat waves and cold spells.

Issues in UTCI Calculation from a Decade’s Experience
2021Computing values of the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) from meteorological input of air temperature, wind speed, humidity and mean radiant temperature is straightforward thanks to the publicly available simple calculation algorithms provided by the operational procedure.

Climate projections of UTCI in the Czech Republic
A thermal stress on human is determinated by a combination of various meteorological variables, such as temperature, humidity, etc. Many indices have been created for the determination of level of thermal stress. Here, we select the universal thermal climate index (UTCI), which is created with the use of temperature, humidity, wind speed, and mean ...Martin Hynčica +2 more

Outdoor thermal sensation of pedestrians in a Mediterranean climate and a comparison with UTCI
A field questionnaire survey was carried out simultaneously with weather measurements, in three urban areas in Athens, Greece, focusing on individual thermal sensation and its relationship with the environment in Mediterranean climates.

Physiological responses to temperature and humidity compared to the assessment by UTCI, WGBT and PHS
International Journal of Biometeorology, 2011In COST Action 730, a multi-segmental thermophysiological model was used to describe physiological strain reactions for different climatic conditions in order to develop a 'Universal Thermal Climate Index' (UTCI). UTCI predictions for warm climates were compared with empirical data from the laboratory tests.
